Description:

Lead development of new product lines from a conceptual state to a final product. Improve existing product lines for increased reliability, performance, and manufacturability. Lead research projects investigating new or existing technologies.

This position may be based at either the Eriez office in Erie, PA, USA or Cardiff, Wales, UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering principals, techniques, and calculations to new components and systems under minimal supervision. Identify technical problems and provide engineer solutions.
  • Optimize performance, reliability, and/or cost by creating mathematical models of systems and critical components under minimal supervision.
  • Utilize mechanical finite element software under minimal supervision.
  • Design and develop lab test programs to evaluate product performance and plausibility of new technologies. Reduce raw data into well written reports.
  • Utilize Autodesk Inventor software to produce 3d models and drawings of Eriez equipment. Utilize Autodesk Vault software to properly file management.
  • Define design requirements through the use of drawing documentation practices. Utilize GD&T to convey drawing requirements and conduct tolerance stack up calculations.
  • Provide technical presentations to global audiences including corporate management, subsidiary managing directors, and product managers at various off-hours to accommodate other time zones.
  • Create accurate project schedules and work with department resources to meet deadlines. Work with product management and sales to determine required specifications.
  • Mentor, peer review, and provide guidance to staff engineers.
  • Produce Installation, Operation, and Maintenance documents for equipment.
  • Oversee agency approval projects. Create and organize required documentation. Interface with 3rd party test labs to complete required testing.
  • Utilize hands on mechanical skills to safely assemble, disassemble, and troubleshoot prototype equipment and existing equipment in the lab.
  • Perform tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor under normal supervision.
  • Communicate concerns to immediate supervisor.
  • Travel internationally as required and work occasional overtime when necessary to ensure that deadlines are maintained.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or additional technical degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience
  • 3 years of experience in Research and Development with experience in all stages of new product development from conceptual state to a final product.
  • 5 years of experience with machine design and general industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Strong analytical background with the ability to apply engineering principles and techniques to solve a variety of problems independently.
  • Proficient in the use of 3d modeling software. Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor preferred.
  • Good understanding of drawing documentation practices including the application of GD&T.
  • Good understanding of mechanical finite element analysis. Understands how to provide an accurate evaluation of the component or system.
  • Experience with supervising technicians, designers, or engineers.
  • Ability to define laboratory test programs required to verify calculations and concepts.
  • Experience compiling and organizing agency approval documentation. Experience interfacing with 3rd parties on acquiring agency approvals.
  • Possess “hands-on” skills to work in the R&D lab and to safely assemble and disassemble prototype equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willing to travel internationally as required and to work occasional overtime when necessary to ensure that deadlines are maintained.
