Job overview

We require an enthusiastic, confident and self-motivated pharmacy technician wishing to specialise in clinical trials and work within a well-established team. We consist of a busy team of pharmacists and technicians who enable our current participation in over 100 clinical trials.

You will be involved in supporting the pharmaceutical aspects of all academic, National Clinical Research Network adopted, commercial and non-commercial clinical trials.

The post holder will provide technical support to the Pharmacy Clinical Trials team, carry out day to day tasks relating to the provision of Clinical Trials within the Trust .

Applicants will hold a valid BTEC & NVQ Level 3 Pharmaceutical Science Certificate, Accredited Checking Technician qualification and be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

You will be required to work at both the Women’s and Children’s hospital and participate in late night, weekend and bank holiday working.

Main duties of the job
  • To work as a Senior Pharmacy Technician within the Clinical Trials Team & multidisciplinary team providing technical support to the pharmacy clinical trials team at the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Organise and participate in the dispensing and accuracy checking of clinical trial prescriptions.
  • To be a member of the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team and Research and Development Team.
  • To support service improvements to the pharmacy clinical trials service.
  • Line management duties of the Specialist Assistant Technical Officers within the Pharmacy clinical trials team.
  • To carry out the day- to-day tasks relating to the provision of clinical trials within the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services and BTEC (or equivalent)
  • Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
Desirable criteria
  • Accuracy Checking Technician
  • Experience in Clinical Trials

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A clear concept of the developing role of the Pharmacy Technician and ability to support the professional development of all technical staff
  • Multidisciplinary working
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of supervising and training other pharmacy staff
  • Ability to write and follow Standard Operating Procedures

Professional/Managerial Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Enhanced experience of using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of computer based stock control, dispensing systems and associated technology
  • Work effectively with colleagues as part of a team.

  • Experience with Data handling and data validation
  • Knowledge of Ascribe System

Our current Mental Health Services division may be transferring the provision of its services to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT). Whilst at present you are applying for a position within Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation should you be successful in gaining a position within Mental Health Services, your employment may in the future be transferred over to BSMHFT.
