We are excited to introduce the role of SACT Clinical Nurse Specialist within our innovative breast team.

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of cancer patients? Do you thrive in a dynamic and patient centered environment? If so we have the perfect opportunity for you to join our breast team on an 18 month secondment/Fixed Term as the SACT Clinical Nurse Specialist

As the SACT CNS you will play a pivotal role in the collaboration project between CCC and Novartis, the aim of the project is to provide Metastatic Breast Cancer patients with a dedicated point of contact whilst undergoing SACT treatment. Your expertise in SACT will contribute to patient’s pathway and outcomes whilst releasing clinic burden.

The post offers autonomy and the opportunity to develop service improvements within the breast service whist working clinically.

The post holder will be an expert practitioner within the specialty and have the ability to manage complex clinical situations, providing guidance, supervision, and or training when appropriate to peers and junior members of staff

You will undertake health assessments; diagnosing, treating and discharging patients with range of cancer related conditions.

Post holder will provide support within the team and act as role model and resource, encouraging and developing a high standard of clinical skill and

improving patient outcome.

Main duties of the job

Develop new and innovative ways of working within CCC and the wider network area.

Develop new patient pathways and processes that enable consultant teams to work more effectively and efficiently; thereby contributing to a reduced patient wait in clinics and improve follow up processes.

The post holder will be responsible with support for gathering the relevant metrics to support pathway optimization.

Contribute to the Multi-Disciplinary Team discussion, participate in the advanced physical and psychosocial assessment , interpreting clinical and diagnostic findings in order to determine a diagnosis, evaluate interventions/treatments for patients with complex needs.

Provide a single point of contact to the wider clinical team to educate and provide ongoing advice and guidance so that all NICE approved treatment options are available to the patient

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered General Nurse.
  • Degree in Cancer Nursing or equivalent Evidence of Masters level learning.
  • CANC701/CANC7012 Developing practice in SACT administration
  • Advanced Communications Skills training or prepared to work towards
  • Recognised Leadership qualification
Desirable criteria
  • MSc Clinical Examination
  • Msc Research qualification

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • In depth understanding of evidence based practice and the ability to critically appraise and implement research findings into practice
  • Extensive knowledge of national standards and policies within specialist field
  • Extensive knowledge base of cancer treatments and patient pathways
  • Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • HNA training and undertaking eHNA Experience of writing policies and procedures.
  • Experience of working as a clinical nurse specialist
  • Experience of audit and research

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post registration experience at Band 6 or above in cancer care
  • Extensive experience in the administration of SACT
  • Extensive experience in managing immunecomprised patients
  • Experience in dealing with oncological emergencies
  • Experience of teaching
  • In-depth specialist cancer/SACT knowledge and experience
  • Leadership and management experience
  • Experience of multiprofessional working
  • Ability to lead and influence change
