Job Description

St Andrew’s RC Primary is situated in the locality of Gorebridge. As a denominational, co-educational school our catchment area is wide-ranging. We currently accommodate learners across 7 classes from P1-P7. We have a nursery class, which can cater for the needs of 32 children – aged 3 and 4 years old, on a full-time basis.

Our school also has a Complex Needs Provision with space for 10 learners; ranging from P1-P7.

As part of the St David's Learning Community and ASG, we work closely with the other Catholic Primary schools in Midlothian and enjoy close links with St David’s RC High School where our learners can transition to after Primary 7.

Our school benefits from a committed Parent Council and we regularly welcome parent, parish and community volunteers who help support in a wide variety of ways.

In addition to the education and experience below, the successful candidate may also be asked to undertake additional training related to the role of Office Support Assistant eg: Relevant Software Training, Child Protection, Administering Medication, Emergency Aid.

Evidence of competency in literacy and numeracy skills such as a minimum of three standard grades level 3 passes or above to include Mathematics and English or equivalent. SVQ 2 or equivalent is an acceptable alternative.
Some practical experience or demonstration of competency in the use of word processing and standard PC software packages.
Demonstrable competency in keyboard and clerical skills; SVQ 2 or equivalent is an acceptable alternative.

Experience in a similar office environment, with a working knowledge of modern office equipment would be desirable.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on 19.5 hours over 39 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £12,091.26 per annum.

Responsibilities

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.

Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
