We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic individual healthcare support worker to join the multidisciplinary Plastic Day Unit team based primarily at James Cook University Hospital

The Plastics Day Unit provides a wide array of elective and acute services to children and adults of all ages. The service hosts plastics dressing clinics, a minor operating theatre and satellite clinics across the trust.

Post holders will be appointed at band 2 or band 3 depending upon qualifications.

Band 2 requirements – willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role.

Band 3 requirements - Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9)

Care certificate

Level 3 vocational qualification

or

Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties

and/or

Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3;
  • Theoretical knowledge
  • Experience of a range of care and related procedures
  • clinical observations
  • knowledge of relevant legislation

There is a clear framework to allow for postholders to develop from a band 2 to band 3 and this includes completion of the qualifications

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the healthacre support worker will be:

  • Carrying out nurse led wound care clinics, reviewing complex wounds and deciding on wound care plans.
  • Supporting the medical team in clinics held at; JCUH, Redcar, and Onelife Centre
  • Admitting and discharging patients in the plastics minor operating theatre and supporting the team in the theatre.

Experience Band 3

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in health or social care
  • Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalation of changes or findings.

Knowledge and Skills Band 2/3

Essential criteria
  • Insight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective team work.

Qualifications Band 3

Essential criteria
