Science Teacher
Sylvia Young Theatre School is looking for an Experienced and Passionate Science Teacher to join our unique school
We are looking to appoint an experienced and passionate Science Teacher to join Sylvia Young Theatre School.
The successful individual will need to be confident to teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics across Key stage 3 and 4 and have secure subjects and curriculum knowledge. You will plan and teach well structured lessons that respond to the strengths and needs of all students.Our school follows the AQA exam specification. All students complete GCSE qualifications in each of the Science subjects. Our class sizes are small.
We are a unique school in many ways as we have a 3 day academic curriculum and a 2 day vocational curriculum, however all our students still complete 9 GCSE subjects in Year 11 alongside their vocational curriculum.
The role is 3 days a week and based in school. The days are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to the structure of the academic curriculum in our school there is no flexibility to change these days.
We have two well equipped science laboratories and a prep room. You will be joining an experienced team.
We welcome applications from candidates with experience gained from either the independent or state secondary sector, with no preference for a particular one.
This role is not suitable for an ECT.
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about Science. You will be a team player, flexible, organised, hard working and committed to enabling children to flourish. All our teachers are role models who have high expectations that inspire, motivate and challenge students.They all demonstrate consistent high standards of personal and professional conduct and lead by example.
Whilst we are known for our Performing Arts, we do not require candidates to have a performing acts specialism or background. The vocational side of the school is catered for entirely by the team who works alongside the Creative Director and there will be no scope for candidates to work in this area.We do however encourage our staff to make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school so you will have many opportunities to get involved in school events such as our regular trips to the theatre and school clubs such as Chess.
The wellbeing of staff is very important to us and our staff are very friendly and supportive. We are an experienced staff community and have a culture of sharing ideas that support each other in our pedagogy. Our school calendar year mirrors the borough's state sector which supports our staff who may have children in local schools.
