Job overview

A vacancy has arisen for a full time ward clerk within the Centralised Admissions Unit . Candidates need to be hard working , efficient , able to prioritise , work under pressure and possess excellent communication skills.

Duties will include liaising with a wide range of hospital staff , patients and relatives both in person and by telephone. Maintaining medical records both on paper and on the computer system.

We would welcome applications from candidates who do not hold Level 3 Business Administration as this could be offered during employment

Main duties of the job

To work with limited supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing a clerical support service to nursing staff at ward level. To display sensitivity and tact in dealing with patients and relatives.

To have a responsible outlook in order to cope with the unpredictable nature of ward activity, using prioritising skills and discretion to organise a daily workload to take account of deadlines and degrees of urgency.

Duties would include booking appointments, sending out appointment letters/patient information, answering telephone queries regarding appointments and other duties to support the service provided by the group.

The successful candidate will need to be computer literate in order to use our automated appointment system.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • GCSE Mathematics (or equivalent)
  • NVQ Customer Care (or equivalent)
  • European Computer Driving Licence qualifications (ECDL)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant clerical experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS experience.
  • Previous Ward Clerk experience
  • Experience of patient information systems (e.g. Lorenzo and IPM)
