Transgender Healthcare General Practitioner

Applications are invited for up to 40 hours per week Transgender Healthcare General Practitioner posts working in the NCTH as part of the NCTHnet. This is a new post.
Applicants must be eligible for registration on the General Medical Council (GMC) General Practitioner register, is a requirement. Equivalent qualifications and experience would be considered.
Any Clinician who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification to the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with Consultant colleagues.
Newly appointed Clinicians can be offered mentoring which will be arranged by the Executive Medical Director.
Main duties of the job- To deliver face to face and remote transgender healthcare clinics.
- To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
- To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for NCTH
- To participate in annual appraisal for senior medics.
- To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trusts and NCTHnet, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
- To participate annually in a job plan review with the Clinical Director in order to ensure that the post is developed to consider changes in service configuration and delivery.
- To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
- To comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the medical director and other managers in preparing plans for services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post will be based at NCTH, 12 Broad Street, Nottingham, NG1 3AL and will provide outpatient assessments and treatment there or remote video consultation.
The successful post-holder will be expected, with suitable training, to work as a ‘Lead Clinician’ in transgender healthcare and undertake transgender healthcare assessments, recommendations for gender affirming medical treatments, recommendations for gender affirming surgical treatments, manage a caseload, and liaise with primary care for the delivery of these treatment and also other services as required.NCTHnet will provide the entirety of this training while in post with the support (if required) of the Gender Identity Healthcare course.
The post holder will have a significant exciting opportunity to provide leadership to forge and form better working with primary care in the delivery of transgender healthcare across the nation.
It is expected that the post holder will develop or continue to develop specialist knowledge in transgender healthcare and attend (if required) the Royal College of Physicians and University of London Gender Identity Healthcare course. This course will be funded through this employment.
It is anticipated that the post-holder will provide special interest or placement opportunities for medical staff in training grades. It is hoped that the post holder will provide leadership in collaboration with the educationists in NCTHnet to develop post VTS fellowships.
The post holder will work within the multidisciplinary team to support reflective practice and learning through audit and research. The post holder will have opportunity to provide leadership and participate in the development of research within the development to further the evidence base in this area.
Other developmental aspects of the clinical role will be to maintain national links with other services and specialists within the field; develop further links with primary care.
The post holder will be expected (at least initially) to maintain a clinical role in primary care. This is to maintain primary care clinical skills and knowledge which will serve to enrich NCTHnet’s clinical MDT and aid in the further development of networks with primary care.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCGP OR MRCGP equivalent approved by the Royal College of General Practice
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
- Completion of RCP PGDip Gender Identity Health Practice
- Additional clinical qualifications
Eligibility
Essential criteria- Fully registered with GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
- Eligible or within 6 months of being eligible for inclusion on the GMC General Practitioner Register
- On the National GP Performers List
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice
Transport
Essential criteria- Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative

- Experience of MDT working

- Wide range of transgender healthcare experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
