The Senior Product Designer at Certara is responsible for designing user experience solutions that transform the Simcyp Simulator from a desktop application to a cloud-based platform, while enhancing the desktop version’s usability. This role focuses on creating mockups, prototypes, and workflows to support a seamless transition to Microsoft Azure, ensuring consistency and accessibility across platforms.

The Senior Product Designer collaborates with product managers, engineers, and the design team to deliver high-quality experiences that advance Certara’s mission to accelerate drug development.

Responsibilities:

  • Design user experience solutions for the Simcyp Simulator, translating user stories into mockups and prototypes using tools like Figma.
  • Enhance workflows for a global audience, addressing diverse accessibility needs and ensuring usability across desktop and cloud platforms.
  • Collaborate with engineers to address edge cases and technical challenges, adapting designs as needed during development.
  • Adopt, Refine and expand the existing Design System, identifying gaps and advocating for its adoption across Certara’s product teams.
  • Provide constructive feedback and insightful questions to flesh out user stories with product managers and stakeholders.
  • Ensure design consistency and scalability as the Simcyp Simulator transitions to Microsoft Azure-based cloud infrastructure.
  • Champion user-centered design principles, advocating for innovative UX possibilities within the product area.
  • Support the growth of the Product Design Team by sharing knowledge and mentoring team members.
  • Tackle complex design problems with critical thinking, balancing user needs with technical feasibility.
  • Maintain documentation of design decisions, prototypes, and workflows for team reference and future iterations.

Qualifications:

Essential
  • Proven experience designing workflows with mockups and prototypes for software applications, ideally for a global audience.
  • Strong expertise in UX design, with proficiency in Figma or comparable design tools (UI-only experience not sufficient).
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS standards to effectively communicate with engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with product management practices and tools (e.g., Shape Up, Atlassian products, or similar).
  • High degree of empathy to understand user perspectives and team dynamics.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with product managers, engineers, and designers.
  • Ability to advocate for great UX and propose innovative solutions within a product area.
  • Critical thinking skills to address complex design challenges and deliver scalable solutions.
  • 3 years working in product design environment
Desirable
  • Experience designing for cloud-based platforms, such as Microsoft Azure, and transitioning desktop applications to the cloud.
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical or biotech industry and its unique user experience challenges.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and designing for diverse user needs.
  • Previous success in evolving a Design System or promoting its adoption across teams.
  • Willingness to teach and learn, contributing to the growth of a design team.
