Summary of the Role

Are you passionate about making a tangible impact in your community? Roundabout's Hostel Service is looking for a Team Leader to support our staff in preventing homelessness among young people aged 16-25 in Sheffield.

This role is an opportunity to support the Hostel Service Manager in all operational aspects of service delivery in a 27 Bed 24-hour accommodation-based service.

The Team Leader is primarily responsible for overseeing the staff rota ensuring that the hostel is fully staffed at all times including managing cover for staff A/L requests and absences.

This role also includes overseeing referrals into the service, ensuring fair access and acceptance, manage voids effectively and respond to emergency referrals when requested.

Do you have a passion to undertake day–to-day responsibility for the co-ordination of the work of Project Workers? This includes daily tasks which include addressing safe guarding issues, attending multi agency meetings maintaining positive relationships with external stakeholders, key statutory services, young people using the services and the wider public including representing the organisation in a competent and professional manner.

To assist the Hostel Service Manager in individual appraisals and hold regular supervisions, team meetings and away days including contributing towards service planning by offering innovated and creative thinking and ensuring that the team understand the key performance targets and how they will be achieved.

Key accountabilities
  • Ensure that all Safeguarding issues are reported appropriately and promptly in line with Roundabout’s relevant Safeguarding practices and incident reporting
  • Manage the rota on a daily basis to ensure the service is covered at all times this includes overseeing the relief pool
  • Build positive relationships with young people while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Alongside the Hostel Service Manager, conduct regular quality checks to ensure that all assessment and support plans have been completed to an effective and high standard
  • Ensure that young peoples’ move on from the service is managed effectively and where possible is planned and co-ordinated with relevant agencies.
  • To oversee the co-ordination, planning and delivery of group work sessions on a flexible timetabled basis that will aid the support process and resettlement of young people residing at the hostel.
  • Maximise the rental income and ensure there is a robust system to monitor rental income.
  • Ensure that the written policies and procedures of Roundabout are implemented fully and effectively
  • Hold regular supervisions with staff in line with policy
  • Liaise with other agencies to promote the work of Roundabout, facilitate access to the services offered and maintain Roundabout’s reputation.
  • Ensure the condition of the Hostel is maintained in accordance with agreed standards so that it is hygienic and safe.
  • Ensure all licence agreement terms are adhered to by young people and support young people to understand their responsibilities as a licensee.
  • Deal with all complaints according to Roundabout’s procedures.
  • Cover in the absence of the Hostel Service Manager where appropriate.
  • Support young people in the skills and processes necessary to participate in the consultation process.
  • To encourage the wider implementation of consultation across the project promoting the inclusion of young people at all levels of service delivery.

Other duties

Participate in the on-call rota.

Undertake other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the post.

Person Specification

Specific Knowledge, Experience and Skills

1 Experience of, managing, overseeing and implementing a 24-hour staffing rota
2 Managerial experience of working in a supported housing or residential setting
3 A demonstrable understanding of Safeguarding reporting and appropriate practices with children and vulnerable adults.
4 A working practise of applying strength-based approach and trauma informed care to support and influence complex young people
5 Managing and supporting staff involved in assessments, support planning and review processes.

6 Motivating and leading a team, creating a positive working culture.

7 Direct experience of diffusing conflict including managing clients challenging behaviour
8 An ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workload by using own initiative to achieve targets.
9 Able to quality assure delivery of service to meet the needs of clients and identify gaps.

10 A clear understanding of resettlement and homeless prevention
