Teaching Personnel is recruiting an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant for a long-term temporary position across secondary schools in Durham, starting September 2026. This is a role for someone who knows SEND — not just in theory, but in practice.Someone who has spent time in classrooms supporting students with complex needs and understands what genuine, effective SEND support actually looks like.
The schools Teaching Personnel works with across Durham are inclusive, well-resourced environments with established SEND teams. You'll be stepping into settings where support staff are valued, where the SENCO is accessible, and where the work you do will have a visible, lasting impact on the students you support.
The role:
- Providing targeted support to students with a range of SEND needs across KS3 and KS4
- Delivering structured 1:1 and small group interventions
- Working within the frameworks of EHCPs and individual support plans
- Supporting students with ASD, ADHD, learning difficulties, and complex needs
- Liaising with teachers, the SENCO, and wider support staff to ensure consistency
- Contributing to a positive, inclusive learning environment
- Maintaining accurate records and attending reviews as required
What we need from you:
- Proven, hands-on experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant in a secondary school setting
- Strong understanding of a range of SEND needs and how they present in the classroom
- Confidence delivering interventions independently
- A patient, consistent, and student-focused approach
- Experience working with EHCPs and individual support plans
- Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent — desirable
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
