Your Role as a Catering Assistant
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Catering Tutor to join our team at HMP/YOI Peterborough. In this rewarding role, you will support and inspire learners to gain recognised catering qualifications, helping them build valuable skills for future employment.Working closely with the Training, Skills & Employment Manager, you will develop and deliver engaging lessons that cater to a range of abilities, ensuring each learner has the opportunity to succeed.
Beyond teaching, you will play a vital role in challenging negative behaviours, fostering self-esteem, and supporting rehabilitation. Your work will directly contribute to improving employability prospects for prisoners, ultimately helping to reduce reoffending rates.You will be responsible for maintaining a safe and structured learning environment, adhering to relevant prison policies and procedures. With your guidance, learners will not only develop culinary expertise but also gain the confidence and motivation to take positive steps forward.

The Ideal Candidate
Essential:
- Full teaching qualification (Minimum CTLLS) or PGCE
- Experience delivering a Level 2 City & Guilds catering qualification
- Experience teaching in both classroom and one-to-one settings
- Catering qualifications or significant industry experience
- Food Safety and HACCP qualifications
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Passion for rehabilitation and resettlement of offenders
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable:
- Experience teaching or supporting individuals with challenging behaviours
- Assessor or IV qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
- Experience working in a prison environment
