We are seeking a Director of Teaching & Learning to join our college's leadership team. This pivotal role requires a high standard of leadership and management skills, coupled with an excellent knowledge of the post-16 educational context. The successful candidate will be an outstanding teaching and learning practitioner with a robust knowledge of teaching, learning, and assessment strategies.

Purpose of the Role:

The Director of Teaching & Learning will act as a role model for all staff and students, providing strategic and operational leadership to drive continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment. This role is crucial in developing and implementing a comprehensive teaching and learning strategy aligned with the college’s strategic priorities.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead the promotion of the college’s ethos and values and champion a culture of excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a visionary teaching and learning strategy that aligns with the college's strategic priorities.
  • Promote reflective practice and continuous professional development among academic staff.
  • Coordinate the observation of teaching and learning in line with college procedures.
  • Work with leaders to support high-quality pedagogy across all curriculum areas.
  • Maintain a robust system for monitoring and evaluating the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Produce reports and documentation as required for various stakeholders including the Governing Body.
  • Establish effective links with universities and employers to disseminate good practice and enhance curriculum development.
  • Support the Principal and Assistant Principal during Ofsted inspections and other evaluations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent relevant professional qualification.
  • PGCE/Certificate in Education or equivalent.
  • Level 2 English and Maths, or willingness to obtain within one year.
  • Extensive experience in a senior/management role within an educational environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technologies in education.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage change effectively.
  • A sound understanding of the government agenda for education and Ofsted requirements.

  • Participate in the Performance Development Review cycle and professional development.
  • Commit to the college's safeguarding policy.
