Assistant Account Manager (Rail Services)

Overview:

As an Assistant Account Manager (Rail Services) at GB Railfreight (GBRf), you will support the Account Manager and Head of Department in maintaining and enhancing customer relationships within our Passenger Services sector. You will work closely with internal departments such as Operations, Planning, and Finance to assist in achieving operational excellence and exceptional customer service.

Your role will involve assisting in the design and execution of a range of bespoke passenger train services for our customers, and you will proactively identify potential issues and assist in implementing solutions to overcome obstacles efficiently.

You will serve as a secondary point of contact for customers, assisting in establishing clear communication channels and ensuring all commercial and safety obligations are met. This position requires strong organisational skills, commercial awareness, and excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities:

Support Contract Management:

  • Assist the Account Manager in optimising contract performance and profitability by liaising with customers, clients, and suppliers.
  • Ensure that contracts provide clear guidelines incorporating both the customer’s and GBRf’s safety requirements, are fit for purpose, and resolve issues promptly.
  • Support end-to-end contract delivery.

Customer Relations Support:

  • Assist in building and maintaining strong relationships with internal teams and customers.
  • Support the Account Manager in retaining and expanding existing contracts and act as a secondary point of contact for issues related to GBRf’s service delivery.

Order Management Assistance:

  • Support the Account Manager in managing customer orders to ensure timely and efficient delivery.
  • Assist in managing customer accounts, ensuring correct billing within appropriate timescales.

Performance Monitoring:

  • Monitor and collate weekly performance statistics for each customer flow.
  • Assist in compiling and analysing monthly performance statistics. Help prepare presentations of annual revenue and performance targets for each contract at meetings with senior staff.

Financial Oversight Support:

  • Assist in reviewing management accounts to ensure services are delivered efficiently.
  • Provide timely financial updates in the most efficient way, ensuring the information remains fit for purpose and that any issues are highlighted and resolved promptly.
  • Liaise with the GBRf accounts payable team as required to bring order to financial performance data, budget, and forecast documentation.
  • Assist with the compilation of updated forecasts to set timescales.
  • Assist in challenging any monthly revenue or Return on Sales (ROS) numbers that appear incorrect for each contract by working alongside other GBRf departments to identify the source of data.
  • Calculate all fuel escalators and ensure all income is either invoiced or accrued.

Team Support:

  • Provide support to team members during periods of annual leave or high demand, assisting in maintaining smooth operations.
  • You will also provide administration and market report support for the Head of Department, as well as assist with account management

Customer Engagement:

  • Represent GB Railfreight in engagement with customer back-office personnel where appropriate.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills:

⦁ Educational Qualifications: Minimum of 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade A-C, including English and Maths.
⦁ Industry Knowledge - Understanding of railway passenger operations and GBRf services
⦁ Customer Service Experience: Experience in managing customer interactions effectively.
⦁ Organisational Skills: Strong ability to manage tasks and priorities efficiently.
⦁ Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
⦁ Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
⦁ Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain relationships with customers and internal teams.
⦁ Problem-Solving: Ability to assist in identifying issues and driving resolutions efficiently.

⦁ Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail in all tasks and responsibilities.

Desirable Skills:

⦁ Commercial Financial Acumen: Understanding of GBRf cost model and financial processes.
⦁ Contract Administration Management Experience: Experience in managing contract administration.
⦁ Analytical Skills: Ability to assist in data analysis and provide actionable insights.
⦁ Project Management Support: Experience supporting project management activities.
⦁ Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of the TOPS and control information tool.

⦁ Driving Licence: Clean UK driving licence.
