As part of a newly formed Enterprise Architecture function, we're seeking a Solution Architect to join our Digital Services team to lead the way in creating scalable and future-proof solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape Architecture for a large NHS trust.
As a Solution Architect, you will play a key role in shaping the architecture and design of innovative solutions. You will work collaboratively with stakeholders to design, develop, and implement architecture that supports our digital strategy, ensuring that it aligns with our business goals and technical requirements.
Architecture Design: Develop high-level architectural designs, ensuring alignment with the digital strategy, business objectives and technical standards.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements, understand problems, and provide architectural guidance.Technology Leadership: Commercially minded with experience of leading technical suppliers and digital teams to deliver change.
Solution Implementation: Oversee the implementation of architectural solutions, ensuring they meet quality, performance, and security standards.
Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation of architectural designs, technical specifications, and implementation plans.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Continuous Improvement: Support and implement continuous improvement initiatives within the architecture processes.
Main duties of the job
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven Experience: in solution architecture, preferably within a digital services environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF), and digital technologies.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse complex business problems and design innovative, scalable solutions.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Innovation Mindset: Keen interest in emerging technologies and their application in digital services.
- Leadership: Demonstrable leadership skills with a track record of guiding and mentoring technical teams.
- Certification: Relevant certifications in solution architecture or cloud platforms are a plus

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Educated to Master’s degree level or equivalent or ability to demonstrate equivalent
- Evidence of continual professional development
- Relevant foundation level Solution Architecture qualification , e.g., BCS Solution Architect, TOGAF
- Foundation Qualification in Project Management
- ITIL Foundation Qualification
- Cloud Solution Architect Qualifications (e.g. Azure, AWS etc.)
Knowledge, Training & Experience
Essential criteria- Extensive experience working as a Solution Architect / Applications Architect / Integration Architect, preferably in a Healthcare setting.
- Proven experience of contributing to and developing Solution / Enterprise Architecture principles.
- Leadership understanding of project and change methodologies and experience applying these (including Agile / SCRUM / Waterfall)
- Significant technical leadership and oversight of delivering solutions by digital teams and suppliers
- Proven IT or Architecture skills working on multiple or concurrent initiatives
- Examples of motivating and inspiring staff managed indirectly to work together to achieve a common business objective
- Good knowledge of patient management systems, NHS working practice and National NHS developments
- Good knowledge of modern and emergent solution architecture approaches, e.g., agile architecture / SAFE
- Good knowledge of the application of solution design and integration patterns
