The friendly Ultrasound Scanning Team at Cambridge University Hospitals and Ely Community Diagnostic Centre has a vacancy for a Sonographer who is determined to deliver a great patient experience.

We are a busy service with a complex and interesting general ultrasound workload which includes abdominal, gynaecological, small parts, MSK, Head and Neck, Paediatrics and Transplant Surgery patients.

You will be involved in training Trainee Sonographers and Radiology Registrars. We are very focused on developing the skills of our workforce, so offer in house training in various areas and have supported team members to undertake formal MSK training and complete their Masters qualification and other CPD activities.

We have recently established five Band 8a Specialist Advanced Practice Sonographer roles to support specialist services.

We can offer flexible working arrangements and currently offer a recruitment and retention supplement. In order to support service delivery in the Community, you will be required to work off the main CUH site (at Ely Community Diagnostic Centre) as part of the rota.

Main duties of the job
  • To participate in the delivery of a high-quality Ultrasound Service.
  • To scan unsupervised according to departmental protocols and report on diagnostic findings and expedite the patient pathway where appropriate.
  • To provide high quality training to all agreed staff as according to department needs for the Trust.
  • To maintain a high level of professionalism and act as a source of expertise to other members of the multidisciplinary team.

  • or the Trust has agreed that they will Sponsor you as a Skilled Worker and you will complete your studies within 3 months of the anticipated start date of employment

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • UK recognised Post Graduate Certificate / Diploma in Medical Ultrasound; to include abdominal and gynaecological modules
  • HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of CPD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A wide range of ultrasound examinations with demonstration of competent reporting skills
  • Involvement in the training of Student Sonographers and Radiology Registrars
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate experience
  • Vascular and MSK scanning
  • Experience of working in the NHS

Knowledge

Desirable criteria
  • Open to the acquisition of new skills and knowledge

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Independent reporting of all scans performed
  • Excellent communication skills written/oral
  • Ability to work in a team and under own initiative
  • Ability to organise own workload
  • Ability to work under pressure
