Job overview
We're looking to recruit a Mental Health Practitioner to really make a difference to the lives of children and young people as our Youth Justice Liaison & Diversion Clinical Co-ordinator.
If you want to work with some of our most vulnerable children across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire within a multi disciplinary team and are looking for further specialist training opportunities then this could be the role for you.
The Youth Justice Liaison and Diversion Service sits within a specialist CAMHS team which offers advice, guidance and assessment for young people who have had recent police contact or are at risk of engaging in offending behaviours. It is part of the NHS England Liaison and Diversion Project and is jointly run with Berkshire Health Foundation Trust.
The post holder should hold a professional qualification in Nursing, Social Work or Occupational Therapy and have post qualification experience of working with young people with mental health difficulties with complex needs.
Main duties of the job
The aim of the service is to divert young people away from the criminal justice system and into more appropriate support to meet their needs through liaison with police, social care, YOS, CAMHS teams and other agencies or direct assessment and intervention.
The job role includes meeting directly with young people in the community, police custody and Youth Court. The post holder will also be expected to represent the service at the Oxfordshire Youth Justice Decision Making Panel, as well as attending a range of other multi-agency and risk assessment meetings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are embedded within Specialist Services, so you will have unique opportunities to explore a career within Forensic CAMHS, as well as the wider CAMHS Teams. Across all these services and teams, you will be exposed to a range of professionals, such as Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Mental Health Nurses who will be willing to share their knowledge with you and develop your expertise.

The role will include:
- Engaging hard to reach young people who typically have had contact with the Police and supporting the wider family network / school where appropriate.
- Liaison with a wide multi-agency network including education, YOS, Police, Social Care and Voluntary sector
- Creative Care Planning and collaborative working in diverting young people away from / out of the criminal justice system
- Screening and Assessment, including onward referrals to appropriate mental health services / community teams
- Forming relationships in custody to support young people in engaging in assessment where appropriate
- Working jointly with wider specialist CAMHS teams such as Psychiatrists to formulate plans surrounding ongoing care / treatment and assessment
- Working alongside the Youth Offending Service and forming position relationships
- As a Band 7 Mental Health Practitioner an element of the role will be supporting and supervising Assistant Psychologists in their case management.
- Attending Social Care meetings / panels where appropriate

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Professional Qualification in Nursing, Social Work or Occupational Therapy
Knowledge
Essential criteria- To have ability to assess client need, both mental health, health and social needs
- To be able to demonstrate understanding of specific evidence based interventions for children and young people
Experience
Essential criteria- Post qualification experience working with young people with mental illness in community and other settings
- Experience of working with young people with complex needs across agencies
