Welcome

We are delighted to invite applications for the role of Curriculum Leader of Science to work closely with our Senior Leadership team from September 2025. This is a full-time, permanent leadership position on the L3-L9 scale, offering an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Science provision at The Lowry Academy.

If you are a passionate Science educator ready to inspire colleagues and students alike, we would love to hear from you.

Why The Lowry Academy?

We have a very successful Science department, where student outcomes have rapidly improved. We are seeking an ambitious individual to further build on these strong foundations already in place.

The Lowry Academy is a happy, ambitious 11–16 school with a strong culture of high expectations and support. We have recently undergone a significant and positive transformation, and in February 2024, Ofsted rated us “Good” in all areas. Inspectors praised our “calm and purposeful” classrooms and “disruption-free learning” environment, as well as our commitment to “raising pupils’ aspirations.” Students settle quickly into our well-structured routines and feel happy and safe at school.

They work hard to meet their teachers’ ambitious learning goals and are rewarded for their efforts, creating a positive and motivating atmosphere.

We pride ourselves on offering a broad and ambitious curriculum that enables all students to achieve well. Our rich offer beyond the classroom—from coding and cooking clubs to sports teams and musical productions—encourages students to develop their talents and interests.

Behaviour is excellent: classrooms are orderly and focused, and we foster a “purposeful environment” where teachers can teach and students can learn without disruption. As a result, our pupils thrive academically and personally. New members of staff consistently remark on the academy’s “calm and supportive environment” and the respectful relationships between students and staff.

As part of United Learning, a nationwide group of academies and independent schools, The Lowry Academy benefits from robust trust support and a strong network of expertise. Being a United Learning school means we collaborate as part of a larger family—accessing subject-specialist support, high-quality shared resources, and ongoing professional development.

We are proud of our academy’s aspirational ethos, and we are now looking for a dynamic Curriculum Leader of Science who can lead our Science department to even greater heights.

What We Offer

Joining The Lowry Academy as Curriculum Leader of English will provide you with a wealth of professional rewards and support. As part of our team, you will benefit from:

  • A Strong, Supportive Community

  • Outstanding Trust Support – United Learning
  • The Lowry Academy is part of United Learning, one of the UK’s largest and most respected academy trusts. This affiliation gives our staff unparalleled access to national networks of expertise and development. You’ll collaborate with English specialists across the country and benefit from shared curriculum resources, online platforms, and best practice materials. United Learning also offers strong career progression opportunities—enabling talented staff to take on trust-wide roles or move within the network as they grow.
  • Excellent Professional Development and CPD
  • We invest heavily in staff training and growth. Our staff benefit from at least eight INSET (training) days per year, with three of those dedicated solely to curriculum planning and moderation. You’ll have regular opportunities to attend leadership development sessions, network meetings, and subject conferences through United Learning. We are committed to helping you hone your leadership skills and keep your subject knowledge at the cutting edge.
  • Resources and Facilities
  • You will lead a well-resourced English department. The Lowry Academy boasts modern facilities, including dedicated Science labs. Staff have access to excellent IT tools and high-quality shared teaching materials, ensuring you can focus your time on driving student progress.
