Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Band 7 Occupational Therapist role to support Nephrology and Transplant Directorate Services in Cardiff & Vale University Health Board. The Nephrology and Transplant Directorate serves a population of approximately 1.4 million people in South East Wales, providing a complete range of diagnostic and therapeutic services including dialysis and transplantation.
Transplantation is also provided for patients from West Wales – an additional 0.8 million population. The recently established ENHANCE Prehabilitation Programme is a core part of the directorate’s strategy. The programme provides patients with education and support at an early stage of their journey with kidney disease to help slow the progression of their disease and overcome barriers to transplant or home dialysis.
We are seeking a Band 7 Occupational Therapist who has experience of team leadership, a sound understanding of the principles of prehabilitation, in-patient assessment and rehabilitation. Experience of service development to enable a value-based healthcare approach is also desirable.
The post will deliver Occupational Therapy with the person at the centre of care providing the Right Care, at the Right Time, in the Right Place. The Occupational Therapy Service values an MDT approach and the post will support training and partnership working.

The post holder may be required to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the developing service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Work with the Renal MDT to develop the the prehabilitation programme that focusses on occupation and what is important to the individual.
  • Identify and implement appropriate Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention into the Renal Service outpatient settings using profession specific models of practice and outcome measures.
  • Consolidate and improve the Occupational Therapy offer for Renal inpatients.
  • Develop links to enable collaborative working across the region which the Nephrology & Transplant Directorate services.
  • Identify, collate, analyse and present data to demonstrate the value of occupational Therapy in the Renal service.
  • The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualification in Occupational Therapy at degree level or equivalent
  • Holds professional registration as awarded by HCPC
  • Evidence of recent formal training/learning at higher level /level 7
Desirable criteria
  • Practice educator Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Significant post graduate clinical experience in medicine
  • Team leadership within uni and multi disciplinary teams
  • Evidence of people management experience

Skills
