As Head of Infection Prevention Control (IPC), the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the East of England ensuring that internally and system colleagues are supported and developed regarding quality, and that surveillance on IPC matters is maintained and enhanced.

The post holder will lead the provision of an efficient, effective, and high quality professional and well-coordinated quality and IPC surveillance function capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements ensuring alignment with the activity of theorganisation.

The post holder will play a key role managing the overarching IPC framework within the region and ensure that Integrated Care Systems (ICSs), including constituent organisations, have a clear and consistent focus on IPC and related nursing/ midwifery matters such as workforce and training.

The post holder will provide IPC leadership and expert advice to the regional ICSs and will work with colleagues to support the development of effective governance within ICS’s, support professional standards and with the nursing, midwifery and medical teams support the delivery of transformation work streams and priorities.

The post holder will be responsible for:
  • Oversight of all clinical quality issues across the system to determine the quality of care and identify risks
  • Timely review of data to enable safe decision making at system level
  • Work effectively with system partners and ensure that they have fully enacted new and emerging IPC ways of working and methods.
  • Working effectively across the clinical quality team and support the delivery of the Regional Chief Nurse’s priorities.
  • Providing expert specialist knowledge regarding IPC to the localities within the region to ensure that all teams within a health and care system take the initiative to step up surveillance and intervention when the situation warrants it.
  • Supporting the Regional Chief Nurse/Medical Directors and clinical teams in the surveillance of the standard of IPC assurance and interventions across the region at individual provider organisation and whole system level to gain assurance and identify early warning signs of concerns and failure.
  • Promoting and supporting the development of improved awareness, performance and resilience in relation to HCAI by engagement with primary care networks, ambulance services, nursing and care homes, local authority and voluntary / third sector providers through the whole patient pathway.
  • Linking with the CNO Central Nursing Team to ensure implementation of national programmes of work and to provide and update on regional activity and actions

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you’ll usually need to be paid the ‘standard’ salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the ‘going rate’ for your job, whichever is higher.
