About the young person and the SEMH Mentor and Tutor role

We are hiring for multiple roles and welcome applications to be a Social Emotional and Mental Health ( SEMH ) Tutor even if there is not a specific placement immediately available
  • Located in Buckinghamshire
  • Typically 10-15 hours per week, with variations depending on pupil needs
  • Key Stage 1 / Key Stage 2 / Key Stage 3 / Key Stage 4 / Post 16
  • Support for Children and Young People who have Adverse Childhood Experiences ( ACE ), bereavement, loss, trauma or struggle to identify and manage their emotions
  • Ages: 5 years old until 25 years old

The SEMH mentor and tutor who can support a variety of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities / SEND would be a bonus as a lot of ASEND pupils may also have other needs, such as Autism, ADHD or Learning Difficulties. It makes for work that is very engaging and rewarding.

Some pupils ASEND gets asked to support solely need a balanced mix of therapeutic support alongside academic tutoring to either catch up on time they’ve missed or in preparation for exams in certain subjects (English, Maths, Science etc).

Essential
  • Enhanced DBS (we can help obtain this for you)
  • Experience, knowledge, and understanding of safeguarding processes
  • A person-centred approach in your work
  • A passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement
  • You must work in a way that promotes the health, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people and follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
Desirable
  • Experience supporting Social Emotional and Mental Health needs
  • Experience delivering tailored academic support with a child-centred approach
  • You may be an experienced tutor or teacher or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way
  • You may have supported vulnerable family members or worked in care settings

At ASEND, we support SEN (Special Education Needs) / SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities), as well as other needs such as SEMH needs (Social, Emotional and Mental Health). We are increasingly supporting children and young people with MLD (Moderate Learning Difficulties), SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) and PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties).
