We have 2 vacancies for full time Band 4 Senior Medical Secretary to join our ENT team. This is a 12 month maternity cover. This would be an exciting opportunity for anybody who wishes to progress their secretarial career or somebody who is looking to build on their current Medical Secretary experience.
Main duties of the job
For the role of the Senior Medical Secretary you will work within a multi-disciplinary team, and be responsible for a range of duties related to patient pathway management, including, but not limited to; managing an outpatient and inpatient waiting for a specific Consultant, arranging elective admissions, diary management, audio transcription and word processing of clinical letters, production of reports and other correspondence as required.You will also have involvement with our Multi Disciplinary Cancer teams.
You should be literate and numerate, with excellent organisational, time management and IT skills and an ability to work without supervision.
Medical secretarial and typing experience is essential. A typing test will be required at interview.
You will have a high standard of communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff at all levels. You will have enthusiasm, motivation and demonstrate pride in your work.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria- Educated to GCSE standard*
- Vocational qualification level 3 or equivalent
- An appropriate speed and accuracy of typing is required for this role and this will be assessed at interview
- Medical Secretary Diploma
- Advanced secretarial qualifications
Experience
Essential criteria- Previous Medical Secretarial Experience
- Experience in developing and implementing administrative systems, processes and procedures
- Line Management/supervisory experience including recruitment, appraisal, etc
Skills
Essential criteria- Literacy and Numeracy skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent people management skills
- Ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Sound knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office packages, including Excel and Power-point, internet, e-mail etc…
- Knowledge of Patient Administration System (or equivalent system)
- Working knowledge of Trust’s Access Policy and other National/Local targets ie. Cancer, RTT, non-applicable, planning and management of in-patient and outpatient waiting lists.
