The Role and Our Team

We are looking to recruit a policy impact area coordinator to work alongside a team of Deputy Directors within the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS). You will also be responsible for working closely with the impact coordinators from other areas within OPSS and also managing the policy support team.

In addition to the core responsibilities for the role, the need for flexibility to be able to deal with fast paced and varied tasks along with building strong relationships with a wide range of colleagues is vital. You will need to build strong relationships with senior staff and will be required to have good judgement on making the best use of senior managements time along with overseeing the work of the support team.

You will engage with policy teams and will lead on work that spans the breadth of the Policy Impact Area and OPSS more widely. This will be an opportunity for the successful applicant to gain experience in working at the heart of OPSS policy and closely with senior decision makers.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the OPSS Policy Impact Area’s Learning & Development needs - i.e. focussing on the needs of the Policy teams and identifying knowledge/learning gaps.
  • Ensuring good governance and accountability across Policy Impact Area (for the Policy and Finance and Resources Board in particular.
  • Working closely with senior management to address People Survey outcomes.
  • Lead on the organisation of Impact Area events and input to wider OPSS and DBT events.
  • Provide regular briefings/updates to senior management on progress with Policy Impact Areas work.
  • Be the link between the Policy Impact Area and Recruitment team to ensure resource gaps are filled.
  • Managing a team of Personal Assistants and support staff.
