Veterinarian – Specialist Role in Preclinical Services

Ready to take your veterinary career beyond the clinic? Join a team where your passion for animal care meets scientific progress. This is a unique opportunity for a veterinarian to apply their expertise in a setting dedicated to improving animal welfare and advancing human and veterinary medicine.

Working as part of a collaborative group of veterinary professionals and dedicated support staff, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring high standards of animal care across a diverse range of species—from laboratory animals to livestock. You'll be based at a leading-edge research facility, where your clinical skills will support ethically grounded, welfare-focused programs.

What You’ll Do
  • Act as a deputy NVS under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act.
  • Deliver expert clinical care and case management, including anaesthesia, surgery, and ophthalmology.
  • Provide advice and guidance on animal welfare, contributing to internal ethical review processes.
  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams, regulatory bodies, and clients to ensure compliance and excellence in veterinary care.
  • Support and potentially lead specialist research, with opportunities to publish and present work.
What We’re Looking For
  • Eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
  • Strong clinical foundation in medicine and surgery, with interest in developing skills across a variety of species.
  • Prior experience in laboratory animal medicine is an advantage, but full training will be provided.
  • Willingness to participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota (non-onerous)
What’s in It for You
  • Clear pathways for professional growth and development, including support for further research and publication.
  • A supportive, progressive environment that values animal welfare, scientific integrity, and career fulfilment.

Step out of the ordinary and into a veterinary role with impact. Apply your skills where they help shape the future of medicine, for both humans and animals.
