Programme Director East of England Specialised Provider Collaborative

apartmentCambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust placeCambridge calendar_month

A Vacancy at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Specialised services typically treat patients with cancers, genetic disorders or complex medical or surgical conditions, delivering cutting-edge care and catalysing innovation.

Specialised services are not available in every hospital due to delivery by specialist teams. They have traditionally been planned nationally by NHS England, who have begun delegating specialised commissioning to ICBs, aiming to reconnect care pathways based to a population-based care model.

Within the East of England (EoE) in 22/23, NHSE identified ~90% of specialised activity suitable and ready for delegation.

The EoE Specialised Provider Collaborative (EoE SPC) is established in response to challenges in specialised services and national delegation, bringing together the seven largest providers of specialised services regionally (Norfolk and Norwich; East Suffolk and North Essex; Mid and South Essex; East and North Hertfordshire; Bedfordshire Hospital; Cambridge University Hospital and Royal Papworth), whilst also strengthening partnership connections.

Our ambition is to achieve the best outcomes for our population by delivering integrated, preventative, quality specialised care closer to home. Collaboratively we can intervene earlier, help prevent patients requiring complex care and deliver care locally where safe and appropriate, without compromising quality

A group of hospitals who provide many of the region’s specialist services are collaborating to deliver specialist care in the East of England as a Specialised Provider Collaborative (EoE SPC). The EoE SPC is a major focus for region over the coming years, including:
  • Work with our Joint Commissioning Committee for Specialised Services to repatriate specialised services for EoE patients provided outside the region.
  • Greater access to specialised services including tackling inequalities in access.
  • Support sustainability of new specialist hospitals including the Cambridge Children’s Hospital and the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital
  • Further extend the benefits of regional innovation to benefit more patients.
This senior role combines strategy, operational and clinical engagement, programme delivery and leadership across organisations. Responsibilities include:
  • Delivering EoE SPC’s business plans and setting strategic direction based on data and engagement with clinical, operational and corporate teams.
  • Build and convene virtual teams to deliver programme plans.
  • Build awareness of the EoE SPC, linking strategic and operational regional priorities.
  • Deliver pathway changes to services based on engagement with commissioners and clinical leaders.

This post-holder will work alongside Executives, Directors, corporate operations and finance across the provider collaborative to deliver safe, quality and sustainable Specialised services for EoE patients.
