Working for our organisation

Our vision for the service is a senior-led, front door service working across traditional boundaries and in close partnership with colleagues in the ED, Critical Care, medical specialties, and Primary Care.

NUH has a national and international reputation for high quality patient care and research, education and innovation. We have strong links to local universities. This allows for the provision of excellent training and education for students, as well as being a major research organisation.

We are able to offer a uniquely flexible annualised job pattern which enables people to shape a pattern of working to suit their circumstances. A ‘shift bank’ allows for ease of shift swaps and time in lieu for additional shifts worked above job plan.

We have expanded our bed base, and we have plans to further develop our SDEC provision. We strive to offer the very best care for our patients. The team is committed to providing continuous service improvement with opportunities for everyone to contribute.

We seek a colleague interested in Acute Medicine as their primary commitment but will support candidates wanting to continue clinical interests or work in liaison roles with other specialities, for example:

  • Neurology
  • Geriatric Medicine
  • Acute Oncology
  • Haematology
  • Endocrinology
  • Cardiology
  • Respiratory
  • Emergency Department
  • Psychiatry (liaison only)

We actively encourage flexibility and diversity of interests in our team; existing consultants are supported in a range of special interests and roles including Maternity Medicine, Toxicology, bedside ultrasound, post graduate medical education and governance.

We recognise that all recent trainees have a special interest or skill gained in training and we will incorporate these into the team as fully as possible. Special skills / interests and how these might be incorporated into the role and the wider Acute Medicine team can be discussed informally pre-interview.
