Job overview
Following a recent uplift to the nursing establishment, an exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated nurses to work in a busy Haematology & Oncology Day Unit.
We are looking for an enthusiastic nurses who can work dynamically and at a fast pace to ensure safe and effective care delivery.
We have close links with Hope for Tomorrow who support by the loan of 2 Mobile Cancer Care Units. The successful candidates will have a clear vision of quality care delivery and will be committed to helping to develop and improve the Haematology / Oncology service at Airedale General Hospital.

Main duties of the job
To work on the Haematology Oncology Day Unit (HODU) &Mobile Cancer Care Units (MCCU) supporting patients, and
their carer’s, who are receiving chemotherapy and supportive
treatments for haematology/oncology conditions.
The post is an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team which includespharmacy, specialist nurses and MCCU team. The post
holder will contribute towards the development of clinical
practice and self-development and perform procedures
required of the role and be prepared to learn new skills
relevant to the role including administering chemotherapy.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Studied to Diploma level or equivalent
- Registered with NMC
- Completed 6 months preceptorship period following registration
- Recent evidence of study / professional development
- Willing to undertake post registration study
- RGN Level 1
- Sc / MSc in Health care studies Recognised teaching qualification
- Cannulation and phlebotomy
- IV drug delivery
- Access to CVADs competencies
- Blood transfusion training
- UKONS SACT Passport
- AIMS / ILS / ALS
- Advanced communications skills
Experience
Essential criteria- Significant post qualification experience in an NHS acute setting
- Relevant experience caring for patients with haematology / oncology conditions
- Relevant experience caring for patients with haematology / oncology conditions
- Experience of administering chemotherapy
- Palliative care knowledge
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Knowledge of the NHS Constitution & “Understanding the new NHS”.
- Understanding the need for evidence-based practice
- Willingness to undertake essential training Understanding of haematology and oncology disease groups
- Understanding of haematology and oncology disease groups
- Knowledge of the care of patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments
Skills
Essential criteria- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Person - centered approach to assessment and care delivery
- Awareness of the UKONS triage process for the assessment of the acutely unwell / deteriorating patient
- Clinical Audit cycle experience
- Understanding of blood analysis & laboratory values
- Computer skills – Systm 1 / Chemo care / e-obs / ePMA / ICE
