Job Title: Radiology Assistant Department: Community Radiology Abingdon Community Hospital Grade: Band 3 Hours of work:Varied between the hours of 08:00-17:00 Job Summary: The post holder will work in the Community Radiology Department and will be mainly based at the Abingdon Hospital Centre assisting the radiographic staff in the smooth running of the department.
Cross site working may be required at Bicester and Witney Hospitals. The Community Radiology department offers a 7 day a week walk in service for GP patients, Minor injuries Unit, wards and out patient referrals. The post holder will work closely with all staff, in particular, radiographers to assist with delivering a high standard of care.
The post holder must meet the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, the Ionising Radiation Regulations and Data Protection Act (1984) and any subsequent legislation.
Key Result Areas 1. Introduce and welcome patients in the waiting area, confirming their identity according to the Trust Policy. 2. To be comfortable working with a range of different patients. 3. To exercise discretion and maintain patient confidentiality.
4. Maintain the patients dignity and privacy at all times. 5. To demonstrate good communication skills when dealing with patients, relatives and members of the Multidisciplinary Team, utilising sensitivity, empathy and the ability to manage conflict.
6. Act as a patients escort taking them to the changing rooms, preparing them for the examination. 7. To assist with patient moving and handling and equipment moving, using correct methods and equipment as required (as per Manual Handling Policy).
8. To undertake Mandatory Training as required by the Trust, to develop and increase skills, to improve the service to the public. 9. Responsible for the accurate booking in of patients at reception, in addition to amending data where appropriate, using the Radiology Information System (RIS), the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and the IOV ICE orders viewer 10.
To cover staff annual leave/absence which may require cross site working. 11. Assisting Radiographers performing x-ray. 12. Explaining to patients the preparatory requirements regarding undressing/dressing and assisting the patients when this is necessary.
13. Inputting data onto CRIS. 14. Help to maintain high standards of cleanliness of equipment and accessories, in addition to keeping examination rooms and changing areas clean, tidy and supplied with linen 15. Liaising with porters/wards regarding transit of clients to and from the department.
16. Assisting in stock rotation of supplies. 17. Assisting with the preparation of the examination rooms. 18. To be aware of and comply with the relevant Ionising Radiation Protection Regulations and Local Rules (IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 17). 19. To maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times, working together and supporting other members of the team in a polite and helpful manner.
20. In addition to the key areas listed, staff are required to carry out such other duties as maybe reasonably required. 21. To be aware of and comply with Trust policies, procedures and legal requirements including Health & Safety regulations, COSHH, Manual Handling Regulations, Data Protection Act.
22. Contributing to the departments Quality Assurance and Audit Programme. 23. Participating in all relevant in-house training. 24. Communicate equipment faults. 25. Assist in and supervise training of new Radiology Assistants as required. Professional Development 1. Employees of the Trust are required to comply with all relevant staff policies and undertake 2.
Statutory and mandatory training. 3. To take part in staff development programmes within the department. 4. To participate in the staff appraisal programme. 5. To attend staff meetings. RISK MANAGEMENT The management of risk is the responsibility of everyone and will be achieved within a progressive, honest and open environment.
Staff will be provided with the necessary education, training and support to enable them to meet this responsibility. Staff should be familiar with the Major Incident Policy Fire Policy and should make themselves familiar with the local response plan and their role within that response.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HEALTH & SAFETY The post holder is responsible for ensuring that all duties and responsibilities of this post are carried out in compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Statutory Regulations and Trust Policies and Procedures.
This will be supported by the provision of training and specialist advice where required. INFECTION CONTROL Infection Control is everyones responsibility. All staff, both clinical and non clinical, are required to adhere to the Trusts Infection Prevention and Control Policies and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the burden of Healthcare Associated Infections including MRSA.
All staff employed by the OUH Foundation Trust have the following key responsibilities: Staff must decontaminate their hands prior to and after direct patient contact or contact with the patients surroundings. Staff members have a duty to attend mandatory infection control training provided for them by the Trust.
Staff members who develop an infection (other than common colds and illness) that may be transmittable to patients have a duty to contact Occupational Health. CHILDRENS RIGHTS The post holder will endeavour at all times to uphold the rights of children and young people in accordance with the UN Convention Rights of the Child.
SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS The Trust is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults throughout the organisation. As a member of the trust there is a duty to assist in protecting patients and their families from any form of harm when they are vulnerable.
