Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Health Care Assistant to work within the Vale Minor injury and illness ( MIIU ) team.

The successful applicant will support the Emergency Practitioners, Staff Nurses and Paramedics to give the highest standard of care to all patients who present to Vale MIIU.

The MIIU is open 8am – 8pm 7 days a week and offers either appointments or a walk in service to any patient with a minor injury or illness

The MIIU is one of 6 community MIIUs across Gloucestershire.

The successful candidate will be passionate about ensuring any patient in need of our service is offered the highest standard of evidenced based care with respect and compassion.

While training can be offered in specific skills, the successful applicant will need recent experience of patient care in an acute urgent care setting, will need to be keen to work as part of a team but able to carry out delegated tasks autonomously.

Main duties of the job
  • Responsible for working with colleagues and managers to provide a safe and welcoming environment for staff , patients and visitors
  • Entering patient details onto clinical systems such as SystemOne
  • Ordering of sterile supplies.
  • Answering telephone calls and assisting with patient and professional enquiries.
  • Maintaining cleaning schedules and controls stock, equipment and materials.
  • Contributes to promoting health and safety, minimising risk in the workplace
  • Maintains allocated link roles such as Moving and handling trainer & fire warden
  • Booking patients into MIIU.
  • Performing Clinical Observations, Visual Survey, NEWS scores, Plastering, wound care, ECG's.

As a Health Care Assistant/ Support Worker you will be responsible for participating and assisting in the delivery of care / services to patients and service users as part of a Mental Health and Social Care Health Service. Health Care Assistant, Social Care Workers and other Healthcare Support Workers employed by the Trust are required to follow the guidance set out in Code of Conduct for Health Care Assistants/ Health Care Support Workers to provide safe and compassionate care of a high standard, and to challenge others who are not.

This role requires staff to work a variety of hours over a 7 day week.
