The Unicorn School are seeking to recruit a school nurse to join our dedicated and motivated staff on a full time, permanent basis. We are a happy and flourishing school for pupils aged 7 to 17 years. The school currently has a team of over 80 members of staff for 120 children.

The well-being of our pupils is at the heart of our ethos.

This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and caring practitioner to lead on first aid provision and healthcare across our two campuses.

Key responsibilities
  • Undertake first aid duties, such as treating sick pupils, liaising with parents and staff, and arranging transport home or to the hospital where appropriate. Monitoring & caring for any child who is sick at school
  • Administer emergency first aid to provide immediate help to casualties with either injuries or illnesses, and those arising from specific hazards at the school
  • Provide immediate pastoral care to distressed pupils
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant first aid and legal issues, in line with NMC guidelines
  • Administer medicines to pupils where necessary as per protocols & undertaking stock checks for compliance and assurance
  • Administer, organise, liaise and support with health screening and vaccination programmes
  • Work closely with the teaching staff and SMT on matters associated with child protection and health education
  • Support local safeguarding arrangements
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity
  • Support the assessment of children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing needs
  • Adhere to the NMC Code for Nurses and be conversant with the Scope of Professional Practice and other NMC advisory papers
  • Provide mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention approaches
  • Support the delivery of the PHSE curriculum
  • Develop and monitor health plans for pupils with illnesses and disabilities, especially where needs are identified in an EHCP, in liaison with the Deputy Head SENCo
  • Conduct screenings and write referrals for health services where necessary.
  • Ensure first aid kits are in place around the school and kept stocked with the necessary supplies
  • Provide a high standard of service to pupils within professional competence and NMC code and guidelines
  • Attend staff meetings as directed
