Medical Receptionist
To cover reception on a rotational basis during the surgery opening hours. To deal with patients at the front desk in a polite and courteous manner. Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice; To make appointments accurately for both Doctors, Nurses and other members of the team using the computer system; Deal with all general enquiries and explain procedures; Using your own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner; Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.
Ensure that all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately. To assist in any administrative task as required; To answer the telephone promptly and politely, telephoning patients when requested. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery; To process requests for repeat prescriptions promptly and accurately; Enter requests for home visits onto computer system, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to Doctor; Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non General Medical Services) services, accept payment and issue receipts for same; Enter patient information on to the computer as required; Retrieve and re-file records as required, ensuring strict alphabetical order is adhered to; To undertake administrative and typing duties as directed; Please see the attached job description for a full overview of the role and responsibilities.
