Job overview

We are looking for a forward-thinking senior specialist Occupational Therapist to join us and lead our occupational therapy team on the acute medical wards here at North Manchester General Hospital.

The team consists of rotational staff at band 5 and 6 and an assistant, and we work very closely with the physiotherapy team and other members of the MDT. While your caseload will be complex and fast paced, the service provides high quality care to patients using the "discharge to assess, home first" approach, and you will need sound clinical skills and experience in an acute setting to continue to develop the service.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic person to come and build on the existing team and take a lead on developing the service to ensure the highest possible standards. Another important part of the role is developing and teaching junior staff and students to support their professional development.

The team’s development and wellbeing is paramount and you will be well supported in your role by the site lead occupational therapist, as well as receiving peer support from other team leads.

If you are interested in applying please do contact us to discuss further.
  • Leading a medical team consisting of band 6, band 5 and therapy assistants
  • Supporting junior staff with complex cases and complex discharge planning
  • Leading the team and being a role model for the medical team
  • Service development within the medical team
  • promoting the role of Occupational Therapy to the wider MDT
  • Attending specialist interest groups and being involved in coaching and training of junior staff
  • Attending meetings in the absence of the Site Lead OT
  • Managing a complex and varied clinical case load
  • Ensuring the running of peer groups for band 5 and band 6 staff
