Student Support Worker

This is a unique role, ideal for someone eager to build professional experience in the field of student wellbeing and mental health. You will provide independent, one-to-one support to international sixth form students facing a range of low-level mental health challenges.

Your work will play a vital part in promoting student wellbeing, self confidence, and academic success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Offer confidential, empathetic, and non-judgmental support to students on a wide range of issues including exam stress, homesickness, low mood, and friendship challenges.
  • Actively listen and work with students to agree personal goals and practical strategies.
  • Liaise with the College Matron regarding new referrals and manage self-referral appointments.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality while recognising and reporting safeguarding concerns in line with college policies.
  • Keep accurate records and adhere to data protection protocols.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Final year or completed degree in Psychology or a related field.
  • Experience providing one-to-one support.
  • Strong active listening and communication skills.
  • A high degree of personal organisation and emotional intelligence.
  • A genuine interest in student mental health and wellbeing.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience supporting young people or those with low-level mental health concerns.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation.
  • Training in active listening or similar interpersonal skills.

This role is designed to be completely independent of teaching and boarding staff to ensure students feel safe and supported in a confidential space. If you're empathetic, reliable, and committed to making a positive difference in young people’s lives, we’d love to hear from you.

Hours

15 hours per week, Monday to Thursday from 5pm – 8pm (term-time only)
