The Reception Security team provide the first point of contact for all staff, patients, carers and professional and other visitors, solid communication skills with a commitment to providing a helpful effective service are a must for this post.

This team is an essential part of the processes that maintain safety at the unit.

The role demands a calm manner and an organised approach to work, you will often be expected to work unsupervised, the work is varied and can be busy and challenging.

During a response incident you may be required to witness and accurately document incidents in line with Trust Policy.

Main duties of the job

Responsibility for providing security on the Unit
CCTV operating, monitoring and making recordings where necessary.
Monitoring the Guardian alarm system and liaising with Estates regarding any issues.
Communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external contacts using a variety of methods.
Undertaking various clerical duties such as, photocopying, faxing, filing and dealing incoming and outgoing post.
Undertake reception duties within the department.
To work as part of a team, relate and interact effectively with colleagues.

Effectively work within the team to collectively complete daily tasks and also prioritise personal workload and manage time effectively, using initiative but seeking clarification from senior members of staff when required, to achieve personal and departmental objectives.

Responsible for the safe use of all equipment ensuring a healthy, safe and secure working environment and reporting any risks, incidents or complaints following Trust policies and procedures.

To listen and talk to patients and their carers’ and develop boundaried relationships.

To act as a positive role model to the service users and staff

To demonstrate de-escalation skills in managing aggression exhibited by service users, subject to achieving agreed training and competency in Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression techniques.

To have an interest in self-development and be active in enhancing own personal knowledge.

Service/Ward/Department Summary:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-motivated candidate to get involved with a dynamic and evolving service Prospect Place is a Low Secure Unit for male patients with complex needs. The unit has 45 beds, spread over 3 wards on the Birch Hill Hospital site in Rochdale.

We are currently looking to appoint to Security Reception Worker. We are looking for individuals with a genuine interest in working with a complex and challenging patient group.

We cater for patients with a severe enduring mental illness with co-morbid substance use, personality disorder and challenging behaviour. Many of our referrals are taken from medium secure, low secure, prison, PICU and acute environments. The unit benefits from a variety of practitioners and roles including occupational therapy, social work, dual diagnosis, medical staff, and psychology in addition to the nursing teams.

In the most recent CQC inspection Prospect Place, was rated as Good for being Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-Led.

Prospect Place is a member of the Quality Network for Forensic Mental Health Services. This is a peer review process with other Low and Medium secure units across the country.

Person specification

education/qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths or equivalent.
  • GCSE English or equivalent
  • Further training and experience equivalent to Level 3
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • ICT competent
  • PMVA training or willingness and ability to complete prior to start date.
  • Willingness to undertake and complete all essential training in accordance with compliance matrix for this role.
Desirable criteria
  • IT qualification for example ECDL
  • Care delivery qualifications.
  • Customer care qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working in an environment where security and customer care are important factors.
  • Experience of how to build up trust and rapport with people
  • Experience of being able to plan and prioritise own work under the direction and support of senior staff members
Desirable criteria
  • Data input, use of databases / Excel.
  • Communication with the general public as a service provider
  • Experience of working with people who may have communication difficulties
  • Previous experience of working in a care setting
  • CCTV knowledge/experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of customer care issues
  • Knowledge of security issues.
  • Awareness of Mental Health and Mental Illness, its effects on the individual, family, and friends. Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act with willingness to learn
  • Awareness of the effects of illicit drug use.
  • Some awareness of early prevention of violence and aggression using least restrictive interventions and practices with willingness to undertake & complete PMVA training and engage in techniques as required
