The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) sites at Denmark Hill in Camberwell and at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in the London Borough of Bromley.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experience, motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist to join the King's College Hospital Clinical Trial Pharmacy Team on a fixed term basis (for 9 months).
The successful candidate will be working closely with different specialities including haematology and liver research team on the pharmacy aspects of clinical trials. You will be based at Denmark Hill site but will require to travel to other King's College Hospital sites as needed.
Main duties of the job
-Manage Pharmacy research and development activities, specifically with regard to commercial and non-commercial trials adopted within the National Institute of Health Research Portfolio (NIHR) - “portfolio studies”.- Liaise between the Trust R&D team and the pharmacy team to ensure that pharmacy services meet the required standards and are responsive to the Trust’s R&D agenda.
- Encourage and support research undertaken by pharmacy staff
Clinical Trials at PRUH (and may manage other staff)
- Involve in the delivery and development of pharmacy services to patients entered into clinical trials at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
- Ensuring the pharmacy clinical trials service is compliant with national legislative requirements.
- Provide specialist input and advice on all aspects on medicines management in drug trials, in particular safe management of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) within the Trust.
- Liaise with the King’s Health Partners Clinical Trial Office (KHPCTO), and other King’s Health Partners staff regarding all aspects of clinical trial sponsor and host responsibilities including pharmacovigilance and product recall where required.
- Provide oversight of pharmacy clinical trial activities at PRUH

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- To work closely with the Associate Chief Pharmacist Clinical trials and Principal Technician, Clinical Trials specifically to lead on support, advice and management in relation to the IMP management of clinical trials in the Trust.
- Liaising with specialist care group pharmacists, the KHPCTO, Clinical Research Associates, investigators and other staff groups involved in clinical trials provision, as appropriate.
- To proactively develop pharmacy services in relation to clinical trials in line with national objectives and King’s Health Partners strategies.
- To work with the Principal Pharmacist to extend the boundaries of professional practice within the division.
- To establish processes for measuring standards of service and reporting on performance.
- To identify and manage changes that need to occur to improve services.
- To identify and manage the risks associated with the medicines use process relevant to clinical trials.
- To develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in conjunction with KHP partners to minimise risks identified in the medicines use process for clinical trials.
- To ensure delivery of the clinical governance agenda in relation to medicines used within clinical trials.
- To identify strategic needs to support clinical trials in the future and contribute to the development of business plans to meet these needs.
- To participate regularly in key Clinical Trials meetings and other clinical meetings, as appropriate.
- To deputise for the Principal Pharmacist Clinical Trials, where necessary across both sites.
- To propose and implement policies and procedures designed to improve the pharmacy service to service users in the Trust in conjunction with the Associate Chief Pharmacist Clinical Trials and in line with other KHP Trusts.
- To act as a clinical role model in relation to highly specialist expertise in the area of clinical trials and demonstrate the ability to provide safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of clinical trial drugs in these patients.
- To ensure safe dispensing practice and supervise the dispensing of clinical trials medicines (IMPs and Non-Investigational Medicinal Products (NIMPs)) at KCH.
- To support the Associate Chief Pharmacist Clinical Trials and Principal Technician in monitoring Clinical Trials income.
- Lead, coach and manage the performance of the team in line with good people management practices. Ensuring excellence is recognised and underperformance is addressed.
- Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the team has a clear set of objectives and development plans.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria- Registered Pharmacist with GPhC (Extensive post hospital Experience)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of providing pharmaceutical input into clinical trials services
- Previous relevant hospital pharmacy dispensary and /or aseptic unit experience
- Specialist haematology and or oncology clinical experience
- Experience of managing others
- Experience of protocol/guideline development
- Experience of managing ATIMP trials
- Experience of developing training programmes
