An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Blood, Cells and Cancer (BCC) directorate education team, and we are looking for a band 6 Practice Facilitator to join us full time permanent.

Our inpatient haematology/oncology wards (Lion, Elephant and Giraffe) care for patients with malignant and non-malignant conditions, including those undergoing high dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell rescue. Day care and outpatient (Safari) care for children undergoing treatment for cancer, those pre/post bone marrow transplant, and children with immunological and haematological conditions.

The post holder will be expected to work across Haematology/Oncology to meet the educational needs.

We are seeking an enthusiastic band 6 Practice Facilitator to join us. The post holder will work closely with the educators/managers and will be responsible for facilitating education across the directorate to ensure staff are keeping up to date with training and education opportunities.

You will need to highly motivated, flexible and able to work across the directorate to provide education on clinical skills when needed. You will need to have an interest in helping nurses, allied health care professionals to learn and develop.

Good teaching and assessment skills are vital to this role, as is experience with central venous access devices and administering chemotherapy.

Main duties of the job
  • To be a clinical expert within the speciality providing quality care
  • Undertake extended Intravenous (IV) therapy roles (i.e. Urokinase)
  • To contribute to advanced competencies (central venous access device (CVAD) repairs, administration of stem cells and training and assessment within the directorate)
  • Evaluate practice and care delivery in collaboration with the senior nursing team
  • Be available to clinical staff as a resource in relation to specialist practice and knowledge
  • Provide support for children, young people and their families, referring to specialist advisors / professionals as required
  • Acts as advocate for children, young people and their families
  • Work with the senior nursing team to introduce novel techniques to develop practice in line with the trust framework for advancing practice and implementing new roles
