We have a full time post to recruit for the Pharmacy Department at Walsall Manor Hospital. The post holder will carry out all aspects of governance, assurance and risk management. This will include ensuring the pharmacy department is compliant with all legal standards of our governing regulators for example, General Pharmaceutical Council, Care Quality Commission and Medicines Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.

We are a Monday to Friday service with dispensary cover provided for at weekends, bank holidays and late nights, when you would be working on rotation carrying out dispensing and accuracy checking duties.

The post holder will support the work of Trust's Medication Safety Officer in the promotion of safe medication practice across the Trust.

This includes analysis of medication error data and implementing a culture of learning from errors in the Pharmacy and across the Hospital.

You will keep the Pharmacy Risk register up to date. You will produce and submit reports of assurance to pharmacy quality groups. The role involves being the Health and Safety lead for the pharmacy department . You will also ensure all statutory audits are carried out and resulting actions are completed.

You will join a team of Pharmacy staff; Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Pharmacy Nurse Lead and Admin Staff. We invest in the training and development of staff and offer step up programmes to allow for development ready for new roles and succession planning.
You will be offered training opportunities to support you in the role including the opportunity of a transition step up programme if applicable. You will join a team of Technical Managers and Team Leaders to run the day to day management of the technical services to ensure quality in the delivery of services.

Key Responsibilities.
  1.  Has the departmental role in governance and risk management for Pharmacy activity within the organisation.
  2.  Ensures all Health and Safety and other associated risks are regularly assessed and action plans completed in a timely manner, and safety risks are mitigated.
  3.  Ensures all controlled drug and medicines storage audits are completed on time and resulting actions completed.
  4.  Review and write standard operating procedures for the department, e.g. for risk management.
  5.  Investigate all Pharmacy dispensing errors , complaints and report these to the relevant governance groups.
