Composites Design & Test Engineer
Alexander Associates are working with a groundbreaking company in the Space Sector who are seeking a Composites Design & Test Engineer to join their rapidly growing team.
The ideal candidate for the Composites Design & Test Engineer role must be detail-oriented in their work, adept at assessing product quality, and proficient in documentation. They'll also maintain cleanliness standards and possess strong technical skills in composite materials and testing methods.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks for the Composites Design & Test Engineer:
• Create aerospace composite structures and components, considering performance, weight, manufacturability, and cost
• Participate in the selection and qualification of composite materials, like fibres, resins, and core materials, based on mechanical properties, environmental impact, and meeting regulations.
• Develop test plans and procedures to verify composite structure performance and reliability via mechanical tests, including tensile, compression, flexural, and fatigue tests.
• Analyse test data and provide recommendations for design improvements or material selection based on test results
• Support manufacturing processes by offering technical guidance in composite layup, curing, bonding, and inspection methods.
• Contribute to the development of best practices, standards, and guidelines for composite design and testing
Essential Experience and Skills required for the Composites Design & Test Engineer:
• Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related STEM field
• Proficient in composite materials, manufacturing, and structural mechanics.
• 2+ years’ experience working with composite materials
• Experience using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventors)
• Knowledge of FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, NASTRAN)
• Great communication skills and teamwork ability.
Additional Requirements
• Must be willing to work in a dynamic teamwork-oriented environment
• Valid passport, including right to work in the UK
