Children Support Worker

Hi All,

We are looking to recruit competent, experienced, and passionate support workers.
 •  Candidates will have at least 1 years’ experience within a similar setting, a working knowledge of autism and will already hold a Level 3 Diploma in residential childcare or equivalent.
 •  Holding a valid driving licence is essential.

Annual Salary £27,592.24 inclusive of 1 sleep-in per week at £40 each

Based in Heanor or Ilkeston, Derbyshire

Base rate starts at £12.58 per hour (£25,512.24 a year) to £13.33 per hour (£27,033.24 a year). Annual salary is based on an average 39-hour week, and is pro rata for part time.

Benefits / Salary

Benefits include, planned career development, ongoing comprehensive training package, including support to complete your Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Residential Care, free meals & onsite parking a ‘Thank-you’ reward system, offering high-street vouchers, a sleep-in allowance in addition to the annual salary, and staff wellbeing support, including onsite mental health first aiders.

 •  Qualified Senior Support Worker starts from £25,512.24 per year, (£27,592.24 on average including sleep-ins)
 •  Annual salary uplift of £500 on successfully completing the first year in the role, further £500 salary uplift for completing the second year with further increments offered in recognition of experience or additional responsibilities to a maximum of the top of the band. (pro rata for part time).

Positions

Full Time Senior Support Worker and Full and Part time Children’s Support Worker positions available,

All successful candidates will be expected to display a commitment to promoting the safeguarding and wellbeing of our Young People and to participate in all activities with the young people including in the classroom setting.

Shift Patterns

A combination of early shifts, late shifts and full days with occasional sleep-in duties. All positions include working some weekends and bank holidays.

Early 07:30-15:00

Late 14:30- 22.00 or sleep

Full 07:30- 22:00 or sleep

Nights 21:45 - 07:45 - (Waking Night Support Workers only)

Purpose of Job: The post holder will actively promote the rights of young people as individuals and provide them with quality care in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation.

To assist in the provision of a safe and homely environment both individually and as part of a team to help young people achieve their potential by strengthening areas of weakness and developing areas of strength. This will entail the ability to work within Equal Opportunities and Quality Assurance framework and may include undertaking delegated responsibilities for designated tasks.
The ability to maintain confidentiality of client information is also important.

Duties and Responsibilities

Physical/Emotional/Social Needs of Young People

Assist in the development of new techniques and approaches to the childcare provision

Encourage development of individual interests and attitudes

To promote, safeguard and protect the welfare of each young person

Establish and maintain positive and trusting relationships with the young people that will promote their sense of security

Provide firm, consistent and fair boundaries in respect of their behaviour and employ appropriate and agreed sanctions

Promote the development of a healthy lifestyle for Young People

Assist Young People in the development and sustaining of positive social networks with adults and other peer groups

To organize and participate in group activities and group holidays

To assist in the provision/preparation of meals in the home

To assist and support Young People through the process of leaving care

Encourage Young People to develop their full educational and vocational attainment

Observe and assess the behaviour of Young People

To engage in and supervise day to day care practices, creating an accepting environment conducive to the positive personal development of each Young Person

To undertake in planning for and preparation of Young People for admission or discharge, to and from residential care. This may include professional negotiations to ensure that the Young Person transfers to an environment stable for that individual

To work within the principles of the therapeutic parenting model at all times

Team Expectations

To assist client need and ensure that all Young People have care plans and to develop, implement and review packages of care

To work as a member of a team, ensuring that the reception, ongoing care and discharge of Young People is undertaken in accordance with the statutory framework and policies & procedures of the organisation

To attend and contribute to staff meetings; this involves participation and collaboration with other staff in the provision of care to enable the development of the home

To work closely and in co-operation with carers, social work staff, specialists and other professional agencies in accordance with the role and function of the home

To develop and maintain appropriate professional relationships with families and other agencies

Attend childcare reviews and other forums where young people’s needs are being considered

To support less experienced staff from time to time as part of their induction process to the home in conjunction with the organization’s policies and procedures

Make positive use of supervision by more senior staff

Participate in the staff appraisal scheme

To show a willingness to undertake appropriate training as part of overall professional development. All staff are expected to undertake all compulsory training and training to Diploma level

Administrative

To undertake routine administrative tasks and provide written reports and maintain the Young Person’s file as required by the organisation’s policies and procedures

Compile reports, including Review, Progress and Incident reports

Adhere to appropriate guidelines and procedures

To receive complaints in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation

To undertake financial management and recording of day to day petty cash maintenance in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures

To carry out duties in accordance with the health & safety at work act, adopting safe working practices, in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures

All duties and responsibilities will be carried out in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation

To participate in alternating shift pattern

Common Duties and Responsibilities:

Safeguarding

You must ensure that safeguarding underpins every aspect of your practice, and that the safety of each young person in the Company’s care is paramount. You must report any practice that may put a young person at risk immediately to your line manager, or higher if appropriate.

Supervision and Appraisal

All members of staff will receive support, supervision and appraisal and it is the responsibility of each member of staff to follow the company’s procedure in respect of supervision and appraisal.
