This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Senior Primary Care Nurse to join the Offender Health Directorate working at HMP Morton Hall.

This role requires a Primary Care Nurse to work as part of a team delivering care to patients both within the Healthcare Centre’s and on the Wings within the prison environment.

To provide high quality nursing care to patients with physical healthcare needs in a prison setting.

Accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patients care.

To provide basic leadership to junior staff by maintaining professional standards ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.

To provide support and supervision for junior staff and learners.

You will have the opportunity to make a real difference to our patients, who are often not in receipt of essential healthcare services in the community - for a variety of reasons.

Whilst in our care, we are able to empower our patients to become more aware of their health needs, to be screened and receive vaccinations for a variety of conditions.

We are able to offer help and support to stabilise long term conditions, as well as offer treatment on a daily basis for minor injury and illnesses.

We support and develop of nursing team to lead on areas of speciality which is of interest to them and can offer additional training as required.

We also offer a supportive preceptorship package for newly qualified nurses.

You will work really closely with our Prison Officer colleagues to provide a high standard of safe and patient centred healthcare services.

The Offender Health Directorate is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK. The Directorate provide physical, mental health and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands, Lincolnshire & Leicestershire.

The Directorate provides healthcare to 7 prisons. You are part of a large peer group of 400+ healthcare professionals with access to peer support, supervision and excellent opportunities for learning and development. We also offer services within the Personality Disorder Pathway, including Therapeutic Communities (within prisons), Community and Prison Personality Disorder services and specialist Veteran Services.

We are committed to working in partnership with prison services, national probation service other healthcare providers and our criminal justice system partners to improve health, support justice to reduce re-offending behaviour. The Offender Health Team truly believes it can make a difference to the lives of offenders by offering consistent, high-quality care in primary, mental health and substance misuse services that are equivalent to health services delivered outside of Prison.

You will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of healthcare for patients.

For the safe administration of medications in accordance with National, Trust and Local policies

Provide a triage service and clinical interventions, recognising environmental limitations and the need for appropriate referral, assessment and transfer of patients who require care within wider NHS provision.

Respond to healthcare emergencies within the prison in accordance with the Trust's and Local policies and procedures.

Maintain accurate healthcare records and handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

Deliver evidence-based care and seek specialist advice from other Healthcare professionals both internal and external.

Act as a named nurse for patients with specialist or complex health needs
Provide nurse-led clinics in the healthcare centre, on the prison wings or other suitable settings.

To provide basic leadership to junior staff by maintaining professional standards ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.

To identify patients who could be at risk of self harm and escalate appropriately and respect patients individuality and maintain their privacy and dignity within the constraints of the custodial environment.
