Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate evening carer to assist our 29-year-old son, who has profound and multiple learning difficulties. The role involves providing essential support with his evening routine, which includes assisting with baths and personal care using a hoist, supervising bath time, and helping him get dressed for bed.

Summary

We are looking for an evening carer for our 29-year-old son who has profound and multiple learning difficulties. Evening routine includes helping him with his bath and personal care; using a hoist, supervising him in his bath and dressing him ready for bed.
Evening shifts are typically 7.30pm to 9pm at our family home in Burgess Hill but we can be flexible with times. We have no fixed shift pattern; our little team of evening carers cover the evenings that fit in around their other commitments. We would anticipate offering the ideal candidate 1 or 2 evenings each week.
£13.50 per hour weekdays, £16.00 per hour weekends. 4 weeks paid holiday a year pro rata.

Candidate qualities:

 •  Hygienic, tidy and well organised
 •  Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
 •  Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
 •  Honest and cheerful
 •  Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
 •  Able to always work to high standards of health & safety

Other Personal Qualities: Our home is a good 20 minutes’ walk from the nearest station so own transport an advantage.

Employee Duties:
 •  Personal grooming
 •  Moving and handling
 •  Dressing / undressing
 •  Bathroom assistance

Additional duties:
 •  Assisting our son with personal care/using the toilet
 •  Helping him into and out of the bath using a ceiling hoist
 •  Washing his face, body and hair
 •  Chatting to him/water play whilst he’s in the bath
 •  Making up his bed with clean sheets/duvet cover, etc
 •  Dressing and preparing our son for bed and drying his hair
 •  Leaving the bathroom tidy (he’s a bit of a water splasher!)

Additional requirements
 •  Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours
