Line Manager: Lead Senior Science Laboratory Technician / Head of Science
Job Purpose: To support teaching and learning in the Science Department by completing tasks and undertaking duties related to the preparation of materials, resources, and equipment.
General Duties:
Preparing materials, resources, and equipment for science lessons:
Conducting risk assessments.
Setting up apparatus and equipment for demonstrations and practical lessons.
Ensuring timely availability of apparatus, worksheets, books, and other aids.
Replenishing and storing apparatus and chemicals safely.
Preparation of chemicals and solutions.
Repairing damaged equipment and constructing new apparatus.
Purchasing sundries and disposing of waste according to safety procedures.
Supporting teachers in the Science Department:
Assisting with equipment trials and providing safety advice.
Organizing workload to avoid impact on lessons.
Communicating with other technicians to resolve equipment clashes.
Liaising with teachers to minimize disruption caused by equipment clashes.
Ensuring Science laboratories, preparation rooms, and equipment are maintained:
Advising on stock replacement.
Assisting with checking deliveries and storage.
Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness of laboratories and preparation rooms.
Cleaning and maintaining equipment in good working order.
Caring for animals, insects, and plants.
Conducting safety checks on equipment.
Essential Requirements:
Educated to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in English and Mathematics.
Competent in using Microsoft Office Applications.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
NVQ Laboratory Technician or equivalent SLC qualification.
Previous experience in a similar setting, such as a preparation room.
