We are looking for Learning and Development Officer that will support the development and delivery of the South Tyneside Care Academy.

The Vision for the Academy is to build a Social Care Workforce across South Tyneside, fit for the future, drawing from our local population by encouraging more residents to choose a career from the broad range of opportunities available.

The project is initially being funded for three years and will focus around three distinct workforce pillars:

 •  Recruitment strategies, community engagement and promotional marketing campaigns
 •  Development of a Social Care Skills Hub
 •  Employee Engagement and Wellbeing, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

The Learning and Development Officer (Health and Social Care Trainer) will support the development of our Health and Social Care workforce across South Tyneside. The role will require the development of positive working relationships with a wide range of social care organisations and system partners across South Tyneside, ensuring that the Academy delivers a wide range of high-quality learning and development opportunities across the Borough.

The post will involve travel between local training centres, classrooms and community venues. It may also include working within provider/employer’s premises including residential care homes. It will include regular day time and evening working and the possibility of some weekend working.

 •  To support the development and delivery of our I Care Ambassador programme across the Academy, including attendance at primary and secondary schools, local colleges and employment centres to help develop awareness of Health and Social Care learning and development opportunities and raise aspirations around how to develop a lasting career within Adult Social Care.
 •  To attend enrolment and recruitment events to help raise the profile of Adult Social Care within the jobs market and provide advice on potential career pathways.
 •  To work with job coaches and provide information, advice and guidance to prospective learners on the suitability of courses for learners and on wider issues connected with learning and development and employment opportunities.
 •  To contribute to learner recruitment and selection including preparation of course descriptions, guidance, and other marketing information. This includes acting as a key link with schools, HEI(s) and ensuring that changes in Health and Social Care qualifications are reflective in internal training programmes.
 •  To carry out initial assessment of learner’s skills, interests and aptitudes and devise the individual learning plans, including learning and personal development goals with the learner.

To work with Social Care employers and assist with the development of an annual learning and development plan for the Adult Social Care workforce including internal regulated services, the independent and voluntary sectors and Carers across South Tyneside, ensuring: Training needs analysis is carried out

Academy priorities and national drivers / agendas are reflected
Statutory, mandatory and service critical requirements are met
Equality of access for targeted staff / carers and promotion of learning and development opportunities are undertaken
 •  To work with Social Care employers and help support workforce planning and learning needs analysis, ensuring that any learning is targeted effectively.
 •  To contribute to the development of resources and learning materials for learning and development programmes.
 •  To prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and associated materials considering the needs of individual learners and the promotion of safety, health, equality, diversity, safeguarding and sustainability.

To prepare the learning environment, including the handling, and set up of specialist equipment, resources and materials as determined by the learning approach; to guide and direct learners on their progress throughout their planned learning journey as well as possible progression options; to monitor and advise on learners’ welfare, including safeguarding and health and safety.
 •  To deliver good or outstanding learning and development programmes, using innovative methods both on a face-to-face basis and as part of E-Learning programmes considering the needs of individual learners and employers and support them to achieve their goals.
 •  To plan for and deliver additional learning support, personalised learning or adjust training strategies to deal with learners with additional needs.
 •  To implement assessment procedures that review and assess formative and summative progress of the learner and, where appropriate, to review learner’s progress with employers.
 •  To prepare learners for examination or assessment.
 •  Where directed, to act as a personal tutor or pastoral support to nominated individuals or groups of learners.
 •  To promote progression into further learning opportunities for learners.

The candidates must have:

 •  Enhanced DBS
 •  Educational Qualification
 •  Experience working in Adults Social Care
