About SHE Transmission

We are part of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, operating under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission plc for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland.

We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
We take the electricity generated from various sources and transport it to areas of demand around our towns and cities.

What is the role?

The role will be focused on the management of Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission's land and property rights for its network, managing the risks associated with these rights, and implementing effective actions to ensure the successful outcome of the overall Land Assembly Strategy.
You will be involved with the management and development of innovations and work streams designed to mitigate risks and challenges to legal rights in property and land, in order to ensure the cost effective, safe and secure operation of the Transmission network in the long-term.

You will input into the co-ordination of strategies in relation to the retention, updating and upgrading of land rights, and associated compensations claims, with particular focus on the negotiation of land rights with landowners and the assessment of injurious affection and sterilization compensation claims in both an urban-fringe and rural property environments.
You will be responsible for reporting into applicable budgets and making recommendations to the business regarding commercial settlements. In addition, you will require knowledge on implementing the securing of land rights through the promotion of necessary wayleaves and compulsory purchase orders where necessary.

Stakeholder engagement is an important element of this role, and you will have a wide array of stakeholders, both internal and external, to develop and maintain positive working relationships, including landowners, developers, tenants, agents, solicitors, planners, asset managers, engineers, landscape architects, specialist valuers, local planning authorities, and relevant statutory bodies such as the Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

 •  Excellent understanding of landownership systems in Scotland and practical knowledge of relevant land management matters.
 •  Excellent knowledge of land and property rights, including good knowledge of wayleaves, servitudes and land acquisition.
 •  Excellent negotiation skills and ability to form effective relationships with stakeholders.
 •  Excellent understanding of the relevant sections of the Electricity Act 1989, the Land Compensation (Scotland) Act 1963, the Land Compensation Act 1973 and the Compulsory Purchase Act 1965.
 •  Excellent understanding of energy networks and their structure and governance.
 •  Membership of Rural Professional Group of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers.
