An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner in our Infection Prevention and Control Team at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

The successful applicant will work with the Associate Director of Nursing Operations/ Deputy DIPC, Lead IPC Nurse and the IPC team. The postholder will be responsible for the provision of specialist infection prevention nursing at organisational level and act as a senior role model for the IPC Team.

Attention to detail and the ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously are essential requirements for this role. You must be effective in time management and be able to work with minimum supervision.

As part of this job, you will be expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, this can include weekend working as part of an on-call rota.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of excellence in the field of Infection Prevention.

You will be an experienced Infection Prevention Practitioner leading IPC standards, improvement and innovation in a division within Walsall Healthcare. You will work closely with the Lead Infection Prevention and Control Nurse to effectively deliver the IPC Annual Programme of Work and contributing to our vision of no person being harmed by a preventable infection.

The IPC team consists of a Deputy Director of IPC, Infection Control Doctor, Specialist Nurses and Practitioners, Risk manager and administrative support.

The team are committed in a holistic approach to patient care and have developed strong working relationships with the divisions across the Trust.

 •  Act as a specialist practitioner and senior member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team supporting all health care workers, students, external contractors and support services within the organisation and across the health economy.
 •  Advise on the clinical care of relevant patients and appropriate infection prevention and control practices required to minimise risks of infection to patients, visitors and staff.
 •  Act as a role model to promote and facilitate high standards of clinical practice. Be a named lead for a division within the organisation and seen as a Senior point of reference in supporting the division’s governance processes.
 •  To liaise with the key stakeholders to ensure effective, safe utilisation of beds and that patients are placed appropriately in order to minimise the risk of transmitting infection.
 •  To communicate sensitive information to patients, staff and carers and provide advice and reassurance as appropriate.
 •  To work with Trust colleagues to improve and maintain standards of contemporary infection prevention practice within the hospital environment and participate in appropriate audit cycles/ quality improvement projects. To identify potential barriers and solutions to enable improvements utilising expertise.
 •  To contribute and lead in the investigation of health care associated infections, develop thematic analysis and accurate reports to Trust governance meetings including Divisional Quality Meetings and Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
