An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Humber and Yorkshire Coast Bowel Cancer Screening Centre for an accredited screening endoscopist to a committed and expanding bowel cancer-screening workforce

The bowel cancer screening centre covers; Hull, East Yorkshire, East Riding, North & East Lincolnshire and an area within North Yorkshire (Scarborough & Bridlington).

The role provides exciting opportunities for clinical development as you take part in training of both basic skill colonoscopy and the preparation, support and mentorship for aspiring screening colonoscopist across all our endoscopy sites .

You will be actively involved has a trainer within the Yorkshire East Yorkshire School of Endoscopy . You will have the opportunity to strengthen and develop your therapeutic skills and expertise for larger and more complex polyps. To support this you will participate within the Large / Complex Polyp MDT and be involved in developing the MDT to maximise patient involvement in decision –making, treatment and care.

A new unit is currently been built at the Castle Hill Site reflecting a major investment and commitment in the expansion of diagnostic and therapeutic services, endoscopy teaching academy, research and the expansion of the bowel cancer screening programme.
This is a great opportunity to be part of this exciting development. The unit is expected to be open in early 2024.

As an important member of this team, you will be providing high quality screening colonoscopy as part of the wider Health Service priorities in the early of bowel cancer with the aim of reducing lifetime risk and mortality from this disease.

You will performing screening colonoscopy for those who are eligible for FOBT testing within the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (NBCSP) and Lynch Syndrome Surveillance across the Screening Centre footprint.

Due to the Centre’s large footprint, we recognise that as well as work, family life and your well-being are very important therefore we are very flexible in terms of your base in order to maximise these important aspects of work and family life.

As a valued member, your expertise, clinical experience and clinical decision-making will assist the Specialist Screening Practitioner Team, with their assessment, care and follow up of patients participating within the NBCSP to reduce risks and potential harm from those requiring further investigation within the Screening Centre.

In accordance with the Trusts Relocation Policy, this position has been classified as ‘difficult to recruit’ post and therefore the successfully appointed candidate will be eligible for a relocation expenses package of up to £8,000 depending on individual circumstances.

The post holder will be able to work autonomously having the necessary experience training, skills and knowledge to support and advise the wider bowel cancer screening team in the selection, assessment, management and treatment of individuals participating in the bowel cancer screening programme.

A major responsibility of the post holder will be to provide the necessary leadership, training and teaching to support further recruitment, development, mentorship and preparation to secure expansion of both the medical and non-medical workforce to meet demand has the national bowel screening programme extends to include 50-59yrs as part of the eligible population for Bowel Cancer Screening.

The post holder will form part of the teaching faculty within the East Yorkshire School of Endoscopy has trainer for basic skills colonoscopy courses and polypectomy courses. In doing so the post holder will support the Programme Clinical Lead in developing stronger links with academic faculties within the University of Hull and Hull York Medical School (HYMS) to enable development and research opportunities within the Humber and Yorkshire Coast Bowel Cancer Screening Centre.
