As a Mechanical Engineer Lead you will regularly manage the day-to-day progress of project teams as well as providing general Mechanical Architect support. These teams could be between 2-10 people (depending on project size and experience of candidate) and could include Mechanical Engineering Analyst(s), Mechanical Design Office (Accommodation).
Location: Stevenage (3 days onsite)
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Lead a multidisciplinary team; Responsible for the end-to-end spacecraft structure sub-system throughout its design, build, test and launch
• Be responsible for technical definition, engineering deliverables, schedule, cost, quality and risk management aspects up to acceptance of the spacecraft structure sub-system or component as part of the overall system.
• Continuously monitor progress, ensure timely resolution of technical issues for the sub-system, component or discipline of interest.
• Capturing sub-system / component requirements and/or requirements for a discipline (e.g. Thermal), generating corresponding solutions and producing technical specifications on sub-system, component or discipline level.
• Produce / detail the technical Work Breakdown Structure, the development schedule and technical risk management on sub-system, component or discipline level
• Select and propose the key technologies to be used for the sub-system, component or discipline.
• Adapt standard product development processes for the sub-system, component to meet the overall program needs.
• Management of the Satellite Accommodation & Structure definition, Mechanical sub-systems (including structure and mechanism) verification for both in house and sub - contract.
• Supervision of the mechanical analysis team during satellite level environmental testing, including interpret FEM frequency data and test response, liaison to customer, launch service provider, test facilities and project management.
• Responsible for mechanical qualification of sub systems including payloads
• Give guidance and support to the structures RE and design office in order to create 3D models, drawings and documents for satellite integration.
• Demonstrate verification of requirements throughout the life cycle of the project
• Support integration and verification at system level and lead the qualification/acceptance tests on sub-system, component or discipline level.
ABOUT YOU
• Industry experience is crucial – Space or aerospace/aircraft/military background
• Demonstrable knowledge and working experience of Mechanical sub-systems (including structure and mechanism) verification for both in house and sub - contract.
• Robust knowledge of spacecraft environment and aerospace structures, tools and materials to deliver structural concept and ultimately design verification
• Project team management experience
• Possess strong scheduling and cost control experience
• Be highly competent in preparation & evaluation of test plans and reports
• Knowledge of the dynamic testing of structural designs to show they are fit for purpose
