Job Overview:
This role forms part of a wider pastoral team whose aim is to promote the physical health and emotional and mental wellbeing of students. You will be responsible for the provision of first aid services to students, staff and visitors and contribute to wider health strategies and practices across the school.
You will need to have good communication and interpersonal skills, empathy and understanding of students’ development and needs and a flexible approach. You will line manage the part time Welfare Assistant.
KEY Responsibilities
Medical and First Aid
• Manage the medical room including care of sick and injured individuals anywhere on the premises. • Ensuring that students and staff are seen promptly, and any further treatment is identified.
• Ensure continuity of first aid provision for students.
• Manage the storage, maintenance, and administration of medication.
• Review, monitor and record the health status of all pupils to plan, deliver and evaluate care plans to enable them to attend and benefit from school.
• Coordinating and liaising with relevant staff and outside agencies to manage the vaccination programme.
• Coordinating and liaising with relevant staff and outside agencies for regular medical checks and School Health immunisations programmes.
• Assist staff in assessing and referral of students to specialist services.
• Develop and update health-related policies and preventative or risk reduction programmes of work in conjunction with other staff.
Communication and Record Keeping
• Oversee and ensure effective monitoring of the Welfare Room online database.
• Having an overview of the medical room and spotting patterns or trends in conjunction with the pastoral team.
• Ensure effective information sharing with relevant staff.
• Contacting parents as appropriate and ensuring thorough records are kept of conversations and any action taken.
• Complete accident reports and advising necessary action to be taken.
• Ensure confidentiality of student and staff information.
• Liaise with public health teams.
• To ensure statutory CPD for staff is delivered.
General
• Ensure that the medical room, facilities and first aid provision are maintained to a high standard.
• Maintain and improve professional qualifications, knowledge, and competence and keep up to date with
professional, clinical, and nursing issues relevant to work in schools.
• The ability to prioritise under pressure.
