Dorset County Hospital Dietetic Team are actively recruiting for a dynamic band 7 Paediatric Dietetic Team Lead.

The paediatric dietetic team work closely with the Multidisciplinary Paediatric Team to care for babies and children requiring dietetic intervention. This post will take on the clinical lead for this patient group whilst working alongside the Dietetic Manager to shape the provision of care to the paediatric service.
There is the expectation that the successful candidate will work as a highly specialist autonomous Dietitian, leading both dietetic and support staff within this service, whilst taking on a complex caseload. There will be an opportunity to influence the direction this service takes in the future whilst also having the opportunity to represent Dietetics at specialist meetings.

To work as the clinical lead for paediatric dietetic services and to take the lead in facilitating a team approach for the provision of care to this particular patient group

To undertake a lead clinical role in co-ordinating, developing, delivering and evaluating evidence based dietetic service across the speciality of paediatric dietetics.

The post holder will work alongside the Dietetic Manager to ensure paediatric dietetic services are responsive to the needs of patients and referring agents. The service provided should be of a high quality being both effective and efficient within available resources and abide by the professional code of conduct as well as healthcare professions council regulations.

The post holder will work as a highly specialist autonomous Dietitian, responsible for an identified highly complex clinical caseload within the paediatric setting The post holder will function as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) delivering expert advice regarding patients’ nutritional status most appropriate therapeutic diet.

The post holder will be responsible for providing strategic advice and direction to paediatric specialist Dietetic services and for representing Dietetics at specialist meetings.

Act as an Paediatric clinical dietetic team leader reporting to the Dietetics Manager providing the day-to-day operational organisation for the paed dietetic service, advising the Dietetic Manager on the progress of service developments within areas of responsibility.

Provide the clinical focus for paediatric dietetic services, leading by example and encouraging the highest standards of clinical performance, encouraging a strong base for evidence-based practice, keeping abreast of developments in the profession and encouraging others to do likewise.

Put the patient’s welfare at the forefront of the department’s existence and foster a positive image of the Dietetics Service by promoting patient satisfaction and maintaining professional and departmental standards of care.

Support an environment that encourages lifelong learning through guidance clinical supervision and structured appraisal according to Trust Policy. This involves working in conjunction with the Dietetics Manager to undertake appraisals with agreed acute dietetic staff.

Assist the Dietetic Manager with the organisation of the day-to-day allocation of staff across the service within the post’s remit and liaise with the Dietetics Manager in relation to flexibility of staff allocation at times of shortages to ensure optimal patient care in all areas.

Conduct Return to Work interviews with agreed acute dietetic staff in line with Trust Policy and in close liaison with the Dietetic Manager.

Assist the Dietetic Manager in the overall co-ordination of staff’s leave in line with Trust Policies, ensuring continuity of care for patients and participating in developing staff cover plans in collaboration with the Dietetic Manager and other clinical leads.

Assist the Dietetic Manager with the recruitment process of identified posts.
