MRI Radiographer | Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust

RCHT imaging is looking for a motivated and dynamic Radiographer with specialist experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) with good communication skills and a highly developed sense of patient care to join our friendly and progressive team.

This role will be based at a new, purpose-built unit at Bodmin CDC with rotation through the Royal Cornwall Hospital MRI department .

The RCH department currently takes student radiographers from Exeter University and is a training site for Radiologists. We also have Assistant Practitioners, Advanced Practitioners including Reporting Radiographers, and Consultant Radiographers in post and are committed to developing the knowledge and skills of our workforce.

You will be a valuable member of the team in the provision of a quality led and timely cross sectional imaging service. We actively support and encourage Radiographers in their career development and are committed to providing increased opportunities to widen specialist skills, extend roles and deliver advanced practice.
There is an active CPD and audit calendar within the department with involvement from all staff groups.

This is a permanent full time position, however part time hours will be considered.

Candidates applying for this post will need to work out of hours and support an oncall system for the MRI service

To perform a wide range of cross-sectional imaging (CSI) examinations/scans
within MRI.
To work with the MRI Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner Radiographers to ensure the efficient and cost effective delivery of the MRI service.

To work as part of a team providing a 7 day and out of hours MRI service

To act as shift co-ordinator in the absence of the MRI Team Leader, taking

responsibility for the operation of the MRI department, including prioritising the workload, managing workflow and staff resources to ensure the highest standards of patient care are achieved.

To make operational management decisions out of hours in the absence of the Team Leader and Advanced Practitioners in MRI.

To work with the Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner Radiographers to continually improve the MRI service.

Justify radiology referrals (within scope of practice) using referral criteria which falls within the Royal College of Radiologists Guidelines and the Clinical Imaging Protocol Manual.

To comply with the MHRA Safety Guidelines for Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target. All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.

To perform a wide range of MRI examinations within Clinical Imaging, including referring patients for intra-occular foreign body and lateral skull x-ray examinations in accordance with clinical imaging protocol.

To maintain a high level of MRI clinical and technical expertise to ensure the safe operation of all equipment.

To undertake MR imaging and participate in the wider Radiology service as required

To administer drugs and intravenous contrast agents in line with Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and local protocols.

To undertake all clinical imaging examinations in a professional manner ensuring a high standard of clinical care.

To recognise anatomy and pathology (within scope of practice) to enable optimisation of imaging and to liaise with Consultant Radiologists to arrange further images/scan sequences when required.

To carry out all clinical imaging examinations to the highest standard, adhering MHRA Safety Guidelines for Magnetic Resonance Imaging Equipment in Clinical Use and the MRI Departments Local Rules and local safety procedures and complying with IRR17, IR(ME)R 2017.

To provide the highest possible standard of care to patients and their carers.

To act as shift co-ordinator in the absence of the Team Leader or Advanced Practitioners, prioritising the workload, facilitate effective workflow and manage staff resources to ensure the patients receive optimum care.

To be reflective, flexible, and autonomous in thinking and outlook.

To take an active part in Health and Safety and Clinical Governance, working in partnership with the Governance Lead in carrying out risk assessments and audits.

To observe all Clinical Imaging Protocols and Procedures

To observe Trust Policy on the reporting of incidents.

To produce and implement action plans because of incidents.

To be responsible for the care of all Clinical Imaging equipment and accessories including maintaining a high level of cleanliness.

To report all equipment faults to the equipment manufacturer or maintenance contract provider and the Team Leader or Advanced Practitioner, without delay.

To ensure that any operational difficulties are reported to the Team Leader immediately.

To work effectively under pressure.
